Final Patriots Projected Roster<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s cut down day and there is no getting around it.\u00a0 The Turk has come a calling with the 1st<\/sup> known cut being DT Carl Davis.\u00a0 He is a free agent now and can sign with whoever he wants.\u00a0 However, he could just hang around Foxboro and possibly be re-signed when they put another player that made the final 53, on Injured Reserve.\u00a0 A very surprising trade of Pierre Strong to Cleveland for an unheralded OT that\u2019s has never played a down in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Note: word has already filtered through social media that Quandre Mosley has been cut.<\/p>\n

Offense<\/strong> (23)<\/p>\n

QB (2) M.Jones, B.Zappe<\/p>\n

Malik Cunnigham cannot play Wide Receiver.\u00a0 He has terrible hands and runs his pass routes very poorly.\u00a0 The Patriots are going to roll the dice and waive him and try to get him through to the Practice Squad.\u00a0 Hus value is to mimic the opposing QB\u2019s on the scout team.\u00a0 Perhaps in time he could be a QB but let’s end the thought of Cunningham playing WR.<\/p>\n

Cut: Trace McSorley, M.Cunningham (PS)<\/p>\n

RB <\/strong>(3) R.Stevenson, E.Elliott, Ty Montgomery<\/p>\n

Pierre Strong was traded to the Cleveland Brown for nothing which meant that he was getting cut and Cleveland, who needed a running back swooped in.\u00a0 The compensation was nothing.\u00a0 Tyrome Wheatley Jr played TE at Michigan and wasn\u2019t involved in the offense. He transferred twice and only converted to OT at Morgan St.\u00a0 He is 6\u20196\u201d 320 and has been on three NFL teams Practice Squads.\u00a0 Ty Montgomery came back to practice as a full participant, but just can\u2019t stay healthy.\u00a0 Montgomery didn\u2019t play in the Pre-season game which indicated that he Made the team.\u00a0 JJ Taylor may be brought back as one of the two players go on IR.<\/p>\n

Cut: K.Harris (PS), JJ Taylor (PS), CJ Marable, Pierre Strong (Traded)<\/p>\n

WR<\/strong> (6) D.Parker, J.SmithSchuster, P.Douglas, K.Boutte, K.Bourne, T.Thornton<\/p>\n

Kayshon Boutte not playing in the Tennessee game is an indication that he had made the team.\u00a0 Douglas had a strong camp as well.\u00a0 The Patriots will IR Tyquan Thornton \u2013 he will make the Final 53 only to be placed on IR and be eligible to be recalled after 6 weeks.<\/p>\n

Cut: Raleigh Webb, and Thyrick Pitts (PS), Tre Nixon passed through waivers and was added to the Patriots IR.\u00a0 He is out for the season and cannot be recalled.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

TE<\/strong> (2) H.Henry, M.Gesicki<\/p>\n

Gesicki\u2019s injury shows the need for a 3rd<\/sup> TE.\u00a0 Sokol is better blocker than either of these two players.\u00a0 Sokol was instrumental with his block that got Stephenson into the end zone vs the Packers 1st<\/sup> team Goal Line unit.\u00a0 This could be just two players with a liberal call up of the TEs from Practice Squad.<\/p>\n

Cut: Firkser (PS), Sokol (PS) Washington (PS), Lumpkin<\/p>\n

C <\/strong>\u00a0(2) J.Andrews, D.Andrews<\/p>\n

No change from my previous projection.<\/p>\n

Cut: Ferentz, Russey (PS)<\/p>\n

G <\/strong>\u00a0(4) M.Onwenu, C.Strange, A.Mafi, C. Hines<\/p>\n

Owenu was activated off the PUP list this week.\u00a0 The one practice we saw had him playing Right Guard.\u00a0 I hope he goes to RT.\u00a0 Hines has done good work with the 3rd<\/sup> team OL but has never really seen any work with the 2nd<\/sup> group, so this could be a stretch.\u00a0 I would like to see Mafi next to Owenu, those two would be quite the road graders on the right side.<\/p>\n

Cut Vanterpool<\/p>\n

T<\/strong>\u00a0 (3) Tre.Brown, S.Sow, R.Reiff, Wheatley<\/p>\n

I was very disappointed that the Patriots couldn\u2019t swing a trade for Josh Jones.\u00a0 It only cost Houston a 5th<\/sup> rd pick and they got a 7th<\/sup> back in return.\u00a0 The trade of Pierre Strong for Tyrome Wheatley Jr is a joke.\u00a0 Wheatley played one year at OT for his father at Morgan State.\u00a0 He has been on three Practice Squads but never a down in the NFL.\u00a0 McDermott just played himself off the team.\u00a0 He is injured and will probably need an injury settlement. \u00a0Sow has struggled and Reiff is hurt.\u00a0 Trent Brown has hardly played or practiced.\u00a0 What a nightmare the OT position is.\u00a0 Reiff will probably go on IR after the 53-man roster is established.<\/p>\n

Cut: C. McDermott<\/p>\n

NFI: C. Anderson<\/p>\n

Defense<\/strong> \u00a0(25)<\/p>\n

Edge <\/strong>(4) K.White, M.Judon, J.Uche, A.Jennings<\/p>\n

White is an exciting rookie who can play standing up on the edge or with his hand in the dirt as a 3-4 DT.\u00a0 \u00a0Uche once strictly a pass rush specialist has learned to play the edge against the run.\u00a0 Jennings has had a very good Spring and Pre-season so far.\u00a0 Judon is a handful for opposing D-lineman and can really set the edge.<\/p>\n

Cut: R. Perkins Can\u2019t stay healthy.\u00a0 He played exceptionally well in the last preseason game and will get claimed if cut.<\/p>\n

PUP: T. Flowers<\/p>\n

DT <\/strong>(5) C.Barmore, D.Godchaux, D.Ekuale, D.Wise, S. Roberts<\/p>\n

Ekuale played his way onto this team, and he played at Nose Tackle to start the game Friday night.\u00a0 Davis was a big body backup and short yardage specialist and a surprise cut.<\/p>\n

Cut: L. Guy, C. Davis, J. Pharms, Ju Tavai, \u2013 Guy is a veteran and will become a free agent immediately.\u00a0 He is being cut with a wink and a nod.\u00a0 He will resign as soon as they can put the (3) players on IR.\u00a0 I think they keep Roberts who played very well in the last preseason game and would likely be claimed off waivers if released.\u00a0 \u00a0White can play the DT role with his hand in the dirt.<\/p>\n

LB <\/strong>(5) J.Bentley, J.Tavai, C. Munson, C.Board, M.Mapu<\/p>\n

Munson showed he could play, but the fact that he played so much in the final preseason game is an indicator he will get cut.\u00a0 Both Board and Munson are key contributor on Special Teams. \u00a0Marte makes Wilson expendable.<\/p>\n

Cut: D. Fagot, C. Wells (PS), Wilson (PS)<\/p>\n

CB<\/strong> (7) C.Gonzalez, Ma.Jones, Ja.Jones, M.Bryant, S.Wade, Jon.Jones, I. Bolden<\/p>\n

I have 7 here because of the uncertainty of the Jack Jones situation and the concussion of Isaiah Bolden.\u00a0 I think Bolden makes the 53-man roster then gets put on IR to be eligible to come back after 6 games.\u00a0 Wade has had a pretty good camp and is insurance should Jack Jones be suspended.\u00a0 We will know more after Jack Jones September 15th<\/sup> Probable Cause hearing.\u00a0 As of right now Jack Jones is your starting Right Cornerback.\u00a0 I was surprised he played so much in the pre-season game on Friday.\u00a0 Perhaps he might be a surprise cut?<\/p>\n

Cut Q. Mosley (PS), R, Randle (PS)\u00a0 They have both done enough to earn spots on the PS.<\/p>\n

SS<\/strong> (2) K.Dugger, A.Phillips\u00a0 Strong Safety is the strongest position on the team.\u00a0 They have 5 players that could play here.\u00a0 Marte and Peppers will play some Free Safety.\u00a0 I am concerned there is not enough speed at the FS position, including Jalen Mills.\u00a0 Bledsoe just hasn\u2019t done enough to make the team.<\/p>\n

Cut: Joshuah Bledsoe (PS)<\/p>\n

FS<\/strong> (2) J.Peppers, J.Mills<\/p>\n

Peppers is really another SS but this is how the Pats Picker has him categorized.\u00a0 I really don\u2019t like Mills at Free Safety.\u00a0 I think he is too slow.\u00a0 I would rather see Jon Jones there and play Marcus Jones at Slot Corner.\u00a0 Schooler is a ST player that can play a little FS if needed.<\/p>\n

Cut: Brad Hawkins (PS)<\/p>\n

Special Teams<\/strong> (5)<\/p>\n

ST<\/strong> (5) C.Ryland, B.Baringer, J.Cardona, M.Slater, B.Schooler<\/p>\n

Cut: N. Folk, C. Waitman. A. Speed (PS)<\/p>\n

Ryland is the highest drafted Special Teams player in Patriots history.\u00a0 He won\u2019t get cut.\u00a0 Baringer has a great leg and has been great in preseason.\u00a0 His punts are a real weapon the way he can change the field position.\u00a0 Speed just hasn\u2019t done anything special.\u00a0 Schooler has been great on Special Teams and he is relentless in his pursuit of the returner.\u00a0 Folk might be traded or they could possibly keep two kickers (unlikely).<\/p>\n

Total players: 53<\/p>\n

Post 53 man roster \u2013 Bolden, Reiff and Thornton to IR and JJ Taylor, and L Guy resigned.\u00a0 Look for the team to be active claiming players on the waiver wire.\u00a0 There is one position open.\u00a0 Wheatley might be a cut to claim a player on waivers.\u00a0 Wheatley could then be added back as the third player after the three go on IR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
