While waiting for the Patriots’ rookie camp to occur, it seems everyone is doing a \u201cway too early\u201d 53-man roster projection. \u00a0I used Pats Picker http:\/\/patsfans.com\/patspicker<\/a> to create this guess at the final 53-man roster.\u00a0 Remember that injuries, retirements, and rookie flameouts contribute to the final roster.\u00a0 I am also using age as a big discriminator.<\/div>\n

Cut McSorley, M. Cunningham (PS)<\/p>\n

No surprises here, but Cunningham has said that he is willing to learn a new position for himself.\u00a0 That may take a year on the Practice Squad.<\/p>\n

RB (4)<\/strong> R.Stevenson, J.Robinson, K.Harris, P.Strong<\/p>\n

Cut JJ Taylor, Ty Montgomery<\/p>\n

Robinson is just 24 years old and had a terrific rookie season in 2020 with 1007 yards rushing and 304 yds on 49 receptions.\u00a0 Can Robinson regain that form?\u00a0 Montgomery is 30 and on the back nine of his career with injuries cutting short the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

WR (5)<\/strong> J.Smith-Schuster, K.Bourne, K.Boutte, D.Douglas, T.Thornton<\/p>\n

Cut D. Parker, T. Nixon, L. Bowden<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t like Parker because he cannot separate from defenders.\u00a0 Everything thrown to him is a 50\/50 ball.\u00a0 He is the worst in the league at getting separation for three years running.\u00a0 Parker is also 30.\u00a0 I am cheering for Boutte and Douglas to make an impact.\u00a0 If they do keep Parker and I have to choose between Douglas and Boutte, I am going with Douglas because he is likely to become the Kick-Off Return Specialist.<\/p>\n

TE (2)<\/strong> H.Henry, M.Gesicki<\/p>\n

Cut M. Sokol, J.\u00a0 Lumpkin (PS)<\/p>\n

No Surprises here.\u00a0 May look for a 3rd<\/sup> TE via waivers or trade.\u00a0 Neither Henry nor Gesicki is signed for next year.\u00a0 Henry might be a candidate for an extension.<\/p>\n

They have to find someone better than Ferentz, especially since he is 33 yo.<\/p>\n

First Rookies Signed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kayshon Boutte and Antonio Mafi have signed their rookie contracts with the Patriots<\/p>\n

Mafi had high praise from his O-line coach when he compared him to Michael Owenu.\u00a0\u00a0 UCLA O-line coach Tim Drevno knows what he is talking about because he recruited and coached Michael Owenu at Michigan.\u00a0 Drevno noted that both players have a heavy initial punch that disables D-lineman.<\/p>\n

Patriots re-sign Tae Hayes <\/strong><\/p>\n

Per Patriots.com, the New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> announced that they have re-signed DB\u00a0Tae Hayes<\/strong>. Hayes was released by New England on Feb. 15, 2023.<\/p>\n

Hayes, 25, was signed by New England to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Dec. 31, 2022, after originally being signed to the practice squad on Dec. 27. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder played in the final two games of the year for New England and had 3 total tackles.\u00a0 He started the final game of the year against the Buffalo Bills.<\/p>\n

Red Zone Efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n

Warren Sharp comes up with some great stats.\u00a0 The Patriots had the 4th<\/sup> worst (32%) 3rd<\/sup> Down Efficiency when in Field Goal range (35-yard line and in).\u00a0 Further, they were very unlikely to go for it on 4th<\/sup> down (15%), again the 4th<\/sup> worst.<\/p>\n
