I prescribe to the theory that Greg Bedard has floated a few weeks ago that the Patriots really have a 55-man roster.\u00a0 The injuries to Tyquan Thornton and Kristian Wilkerson\u2019s concussion necessitate two veterans being cut so they can short-term IR these 2 players, then re-sign these vets.\u00a0 I am assuming that Montgomery\u2019s injury isn\u2019t a season-ending injury.\u00a0 See my comment below.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Offense \u00a0(26) <\/strong><\/p>\n Quarterback <\/strong>\u00a0(3) M.Jones, B.Zappe, B.Hoyer<\/p>\n No Change I have had these three all along.\u00a0 Zappe has been inconsistent.\u00a0 He never took a snap under center in his college career.\u00a0 He had a fumble in the Raiders game with the Center\/QB exchange.\u00a0 Zappe is a gun-slinger and will throw the ball from all types of angles.\u00a0 Not always the best.<\/p>\n Runningback<\/strong>\u00a0 (4) D.Harris, R.Stevenson, T.Montgomery, P.Strong<\/p>\n The extent of Montgomery\u2019s injury is not known at this time so I am going to assume he will make the original 53-man-roster and then get put on short-term IR after 4:00 on Wednesday.\u00a0 However, I read a tweet by Mike Reiss quoting Bill Belichick from the Greg Hill show on WEEI. \u00a0When Belichick was asked about Ty Montgomery’s status \u2026 “We haven’t practiced since we’ve been back here. So we’ll see how things go today, see what he’s able to do. Nixon<\/p>\n Tight End <\/strong>(3) –\u00a0 H.Henry, L.Humphrey, J.Smith<\/p>\n I moved Humphrey into the 3rd<\/sup> TE spot and waived Wydermyer, Sokol, and Asiasi<\/p>\n Practice Squad <\/strong>\u2013 Asiasi and Sokol<\/p>\n Center<\/strong>\u00a0 (2) K.Russey, D.Andrews<\/p>\n I am keeping Russey because I don\u2019t think they can get him through waivers.\u00a0 Ferentz is cut but doesn\u2019t have to go through waivers.\u00a0 He will be resigned when Thornton goes on IR.<\/p>\n Guard<\/strong>\u00a0 (3) M.Onwenu, A.Hambright, C.Strange<\/p>\n I am not sure that Owenu can play RG in this blocking scheme.\u00a0 In a straight-ahead hat-on-hat blocking Owenu is strong.\u00a0 I am hoping that Wynn gets traded opening up the RT spot for Owenu.\u00a0\u00a0 Say goodbye to Bill Murray and Dejarlais.<\/p>\n Practice Squad<\/strong> \u2013 Hines, Sherman<\/p>\n Tackle<\/strong>\u00a0 (4) I.Wynn, T.Brown, Y.Cajuste, J.Herron<\/p>\n Again I hope that Wynn is traded (Dallas anyone?)\u00a0 That would free up our salary cap problem for the year.\u00a0 If not I am keeping 4 OTs.\u00a0 Hambright also played LT in the pre-season and looked pretty good there.\u00a0 Herron has not looked good and could be a surprise cut.\u00a0 There is such a dearth at the tackle position in the league I am just not cutting a young player like Herron.\u00a0 Yasir Durant is cut.<\/p>\n Defense (25)<\/strong><\/p>\n Defensive End<\/strong> (1) D.Wise<\/p>\n No Change<\/p>\n Defensive Tackle<\/strong> (5) L.Guy, C.Barmore, S.Roberts, L.Ray, D.Godchaux<\/p>\n Ray and Roberts really came on during camp.\u00a0 Kept Ray at the expense of Daniel Ekuale.\u00a0 Don\u2019t think either player would get through waivers.<\/p>\n Practice Squad<\/strong> \u2013 D. Ekuale, H. Anderson, Carl Davis \u2013 If Ekuale signs to the Practice Squad he must serve a 2 game suspension<\/p>\n Inside Linebacker<\/strong> (4) M.Wilson, R.McMillan, J.Tavai, J.Bentley<\/p>\n McGrone and Langi waived.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to see Tavai play on defense at all.\u00a0 He and Bentley were paired together against Las Vegas and they went right at them.\u00a0 Neither can cover their mother running a pass pattern.\u00a0 I like the idea of Bentley on the edge.<\/p>\n Practice Squad<\/strong> \u2013 McGrone<\/p>\n Outside Linebacker<\/strong> (4) M.Judon, J.Uche, A.Jennings, D.Mitchell<\/p>\n Mitchell has played himself onto the roster.\u00a0 He has been on every Special Team and has shown some push up the field on Defense.<\/p>\n Cornerback<\/strong> \u00a0(4) J.Mills, M.Jones, Ja.Jones, Jo.Jones<\/p>\n The Jones boys (Marcus and Jack) have played very well as rookies and I am excited to see what they can do.\u00a0 Marcus is also an elite punt returner.\u00a0 Jon Jones has moved to the boundary corner and will immediately match up with Tyreek Hill.\u00a0 Shaun Wade was a tough cut.\u00a0 Justin Bethel just played Special Teams and was very good but roster spots are hard to find.\u00a0 Terrance Mitchell just didn\u2019t show enough.<\/p>\n Practice Squad<\/strong> \u2013 Wade, Mitchell, and Bethel<\/p>\n Strong Safety<\/strong> \u00a0(4) K.Dugger, A.Phillips, J.Bledsoe, J.Peppers<\/p>\n This is perhaps the strongest group on the team and maybe in the league.\u00a0 They all play like linebackers and you will often see them line up close to the LOS<\/p>\n Free Safety<\/strong> (3) D.McCourty, B.Schooler, C, Davis<\/p>\n Myles Bryant is a tough cut but his size has really played against him.\u00a0 Schooler has been the surprise of camp and will make the team as a UDFA.\u00a0 Davis was the top tackler on Special Teams last season.<\/p>\n Practice Squad \u2013 <\/strong>Myles Bryant<\/p>\n Special Teams (2) <\/strong><\/p>\n Kicker N.Folk<\/p>\n Punter \u00a0J.Bailey<\/p>\n Cut Joe Cardona but will immediately resign him when Wilkerson goes on IR.<\/p>\n Total players: 53<\/p>\n Short Term IR after 53-man Roster established: Thornton and Wilkerson<\/p>\n Signed to Practice Squad: Ferentz and Cardona<\/p>\n Practice Squad: K.
