Old school New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> fans will likely be happy about Wednesday’s news, which will see Patriots players wearing the team’s red jerseys in 2022.<\/p>\n

The team made the announcement on Wednesday, announcing that the club will be wearing them during select games this season.<\/p>\n

According to a post from the team’s official site, it was the Patriots who quietly led the charge to bring them back after the league had initially hit pause on the practice back in 2013 to improve player safety.\u00a0 At the time, that rule change required that every club stick to one helmet, and the silver helmets didn’t fit well with the red uniforms.<\/p>\n

With the league now having removed that restriction, the Patriots are already ahead of the game as their alternate combination had previously been approved with the league’s brand, Nike, which will allow New England to potentially wear the throwbacks ahead of other clubs.<\/p>\n

The team previously wore a red jersey from the early 1960s through 1992, with the uniform and logo each changing upon Bill Parcells’ arrival to the team in 1993.\u00a0 At the time, the home jerseys were actually blue with red numerals, which was a bone of contention with many people, including the late Gil Santos, who was the team’s radio announcer.\u00a0 They were altered again to alleviate that issue the following season.<\/p>\n

The team changed the appearance again in 1995 to a lighter blue with slanted white numerals, prior to eventually settling on what’s been a fairly consistent look since 2000.<\/p>\n
