Conducting any type of exercise or drill has some risks involved with it. \u00a0Unfortunately, we saw one of the potential 1st<\/sup> round selections go down with a serious injury during his Pro Day workout.\u00a0 At the Michigan Pro Day, Edge David Ojabo tore his Achilles running an LB drill.\u00a0 He was projected as a mid 1st<\/sup> round selection.\u00a0 \u00a0He will still be drafted in the top 100 but this definitely will cost him money.<\/p>\n

Central Michigan<\/strong> Bernhard Raimann OT 6\u20196\u201d 303lbs 32.88 Arm Length, 5.05 40, 30 reps @225#\u2019s \u2013 In his mock draft, Zach Cox of NESN had Raimann as the Patriots 1st<\/sup> Round pick after a trade with TEN.\u00a0 Only has two years of experience at LT.\u00a0 Raimann\u2019s Relative Athletic Score https:\/\/ras.football\/ras-information\/?PlayerID=21097&pos=OT<\/a> was 9.81 out of 10.\u00a0 That\u2019s the 23rd<\/sup> highest for an OT since they started keeping these stats in 1987.\u00a0 That\u2019s out of 1146 OTs.<\/p>\n

Auburn<\/strong> Roger McCready CB 5\u201911\u201d, 191 lbs, 4.46 40, 32 vert, 116\u201d BJ, Bench 19 reps, 6.96 3-cone.\u00a0 From McCready\u2019s game film he was determined to be one of the fastest CBs in the country.\u00a0 This was confirmed at the Senior Bowl running the equivalent of 22 MPH.<\/p>\n

Zakoby McClain ILB 5\u201911.5\u201d, 227 lbs, 4.67 40, 21 reps<\/p>\n

Colorado<\/strong> Carson Wells EDGE 6\u201926\u201d 241 lbs, 4.61 40, 35\u201d Vert, 117\u201d BJ, 4.51 Short Shuttle, 7.11 3-cone, 16 BP<\/p>\n

Clemson<\/strong> Justyn Ross WR 6\u201903\u201d, 210 lbs, 4.63 40,\u00a0\u00a0 Very disappointing time may drop him down to a UDFA<\/p>\n

Georgia<\/strong> Derion Kendrick CB \u00a04.79 40 at his Pro Day will probably drop him from the list of players drafted.<\/p>\n

Quay Walker LB 6\u20194\u201d 242 lbs, 7.04 3-cone 23 BP reps<\/p>\n

Devonte Wyatt DT 6\u201927, 304 lbs, 4.62 40, 7.41 3-cone<\/p>\n

Channing Tindall LB 6\u20192\u201d 222 lbs, 4.18 Short Shuttle, 7.25 3-cone<\/p>\n

Michigan State<\/strong> Conner Heyward TE 5\u201911\u201d 237 4.72 40, Didn\u2019t do any other performance events.\u00a0 Pro Day only did Bench Press 18 reps and position drills.\u00a0 More of an H-back \/ Fullback.\u00a0 Not a good look when he doesn\u2019t perform the performance events.<\/p>\n

Minnesota<\/strong> Boye Mafe EDGE 257 lbs, 4.52 40 at Combine,\u00a0 Pro Day 42\u201d Vert, 21 BP reps, 4.46 Short Shuttle. \u00a0Evan Lazar thinks Mafe is one to watch for the Patriots.<\/p>\n

Penn State<\/strong> Drew Hartlaub S 5\u201911\u201d 170 lbs, 4.28 40, 6.75 3-cone, 4.25 Short Shuttle, 36\u201d Vert, 1009 BJ.\u00a0 This guy is a special teams demon and with 4.28 speed he would make a great eventual replacement for Matthew Slater.<\/p>\n

Patriots Free Agent Signings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Jabrill Peppers <\/strong>This is a very underappreciated signing by the Patriots.\u00a0 Peppers, recovering from a torn ACL,\u00a0 may not be available until right up to the start of the season.\u00a0 His numbers were very favorable in 2020.\u00a0 He will turn 27 during the season and this could be a very motivated player, playing on a one-year, show me contract.\u00a0 He gives them depth at the in-the-box strong safety position.\u00a0 He is capable of playing Free Safety and Slot Corner.\u00a0 He is a better zone defense player than man to man.\u00a0 He is third in the league in sacks as a blitzing safety over the last 5 years.<\/p>\n

Malcolm Butler <\/strong>Please stand up if you saw this one coming. I thought Butler\u2019s relationship with Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> was permanently damaged after being sat down for the Super Bowl.\u00a0 Butler was signed away as a Free Agent the next year as the Patriots did little to bring him back.\u00a0 Now when they are desperate for a number one CB, here comes the Butler! \u00a0Butler\u2019s age is a factor here as he will be 32 during the season.\u00a0 He sat out all of 2021.\u00a0 However, in 2020 his stats were pretty good.\u00a0 If he can regain some of that prowess the Patriots might just have the bridge player at CB they need.\u00a0 This will allow the team to draft and develop their next #1 CB.\u00a0 Butler\u2019s signing does not impact the player compensation formula.<\/p>\n

Terrence Mitchell<\/strong> CB This is strictly a depth piece and if we have to rely on Mitchell we are in deep trouble.\u00a0\u00a0 He was one of the worst CBs in the league according to Pro Football Focus.\u00a0 He was ranked 116.<\/p>\n

Ty Montgomery<\/strong> WR\u00a0\u00a0 At one time Montgomery was a very good receiving back.\u00a0 He has played mostly WR as a Jet sweep type of player.\u00a0 His contributions have been waning for years.\u00a0 If the Patriots draft a wide receiver with Return skills then Montgomery might not even make the team.<\/p>\n

Resigned:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trent Brown <\/strong>His re-signing really solidifies the Offensive line.\u00a0 His contract is heavily incentive-laden and they need Brown to be injury-free from Day one and throughout the season.\u00a0 This move allows Michael Owenu to move back to Right Guard, his natural position.<\/p>\n

Henry Anderson<\/strong> DT \u00a0Missed most of the season with a shoulder injury.\u00a0 Anderson re-did his contract for a reduced salary.\u00a0 Strictly a depth piece that will be on the bubble to make the team.<\/p>\n

Losses:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gunner Olzsewski \u00a0<\/strong>he never developed as a WR.\u00a0 There was hope he could make the jump the way \u00a0Julian Edelman did in his third year.\u00a0 \u00a0It didn\u2019t happen and his Punt Return average went down too.\u00a0 Olzsewski signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n

Brandon Bolden<\/strong> Time is up with the Pats for the Special Teams standout.\u00a0 Bolden did a remarkable job filling in for James White when he went down with his hip injury.\u00a0 Bolden picked up the slack in the pass-catching area but also did a remarkable job of pass protecting young Mac Jones.\u00a0 Bolden signed wit the Las Vegas Raiders.<\/p>\n

Jakub Johnson<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0he stated to a German newspaper that he was told the Patriots were moving in another direction as far as his position (FB) was concerned.\u00a0 This is a watch item for the Pre-season.\u00a0 Johnson followed Head Coach Josh McDaniels to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Next Week\u00a0 Mock Draft 4.0 \u2013 The Patriots Type Players according to Bacon Grundle Candy.\u00a0 I will use the Pro Football Focus Draft Simulator and BGC\u2019s list of Patriots Type Players to make my selections.\u00a0 I will try and stay true to the round in which BGC has projected these players.<\/p>\n
