It\u2019s a Saturday Night Special with the 7-6 Indianapolis Colts taking on the #1 seed 9-4 New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0The Colts are one of the most complete teams in the NFL and I really don\u2019t know why their record is just a shade over .500.\u00a0 \u00a0I’ll take that back, they started off horribly going 1-4 in the first 5 games.\u00a0 They lost the 1st two at home.\u00a0 Sounds like the Patriots start, except the Patriots played better teams and played them tough.\u00a0 Both teams are coming off their bye week so the only advantage is that Indy is playing at home in the dome.<\/p>\n

The Colts’ potent Offense score 28.5 Points Per game (3rd<\/sup>) and chew up 368.1 Yards Per Game (11th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n

Quarterback<\/strong> \u2013 Carson Wentz has had a great running game which has taken the pressure of him and the passing game.\u00a0 His numbers, 266 completions on 420 attempts (63.3%), 22 TDs, and 5 INTs are similar to Mac Jones.\u00a0 He has been sacked 22 times which is the 4th<\/sup> best in the league. \u00a0Sam Ehlinger is the backup.<\/p>\n

Runningback<\/strong> \u2013 Jonathan Taylor leads the league in rushing with 1348 yards, 5.6 YPC, and 16 TDs.\u00a0 He is also a monster at breaking tackles. \u00a0His backup is Nyheim Hines.\u00a0 Hines has 51-261, 5.1 YPC, and 2 TDs.\u00a0 Marlon Mack, no slouch in his own right is at 28 \u2013 101, 3.1 YPC, and 0 TDs.\u00a0 Mack has only played 5 games.\u00a0 Wentz is a threat to run also with 41 \u2013 167, 4.1 YPC, and a TD.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Taylor has 36 catches on 43 targets for 336 yards and a very healthy 9.3 average with 2 TDs.\u00a0 Hines is the 3rd<\/sup> down back with 32 catches on 47 targets, 262 yards, and an 8.2 average, and 0 TDs.<\/p>\n

Tight Ends<\/strong> \u2013 Jack Doyle is a reliable if unspectacular receiver. He has 27 catches on 47 targets for 291 yards and 10.3 average and 3 TDs. \u00a0Mo Allie Cox is the other TE and has 17 of 32, 219 yards, 12.9 average, and 4 TDs.<\/p>\n

Wide Receiver<\/strong> \u2013 Michael Pittman is the top receiver with 67 catches on 99 targets, 882 yards, 13.2 average, and 5 TDs.\u00a0 Zach Pascal has 35 catches on 63 targets for 346 yards, 9.9 average, and 3 TDs.\u00a0 Ty Hilton has only played 6 games but has 15 catches on 23 targets, 177 yards, 11.8 average, and a TD. \u00a0Paris Campbell is a big receiver capable of the big play. \u00a0His numbers 10 catches on 17 targets in 5 games, 162 yards, 16.2 average, and a TD.\u00a0 The important thing is that Indy has been healthy with their skill players.\u00a0 Mack, Hilton, and Campbell have missed time, but all the important skill players have played all 13 games.<\/p>\n

Offensive Line<\/strong> \u2013 This is the real strength of the Colts.\u00a0 They are very good led by LG Quenton Nelson who is in his 4th<\/sup> season and has been a Pro Bowl and All-Pro all three previous seasons.\u00a0 He is the rock you build a championship O-line upon.\u00a0 Eric Fisher is a 2 time Pro Bowl OT who was drafted #1 overall by Kansas City in 2013.\u00a0 He tore his Achilles in the AFC Championship game last January and signed a one-year contract with Indy to replace Anthony Constanza at LT.\u00a0 He can be beat one-on-one on the outside by a speed rusher like Matt Judon.\u00a0\u00a0 OC Ryan Kelly is in his 6th<\/sup> year out of Alabama and is expected to play on Saturday night.\u00a0 RG is manned by 7-year vet Mark Glowinski from West Virginia.\u00a0 RT is the responsibility of Braden Smith is a 3-year vet from Auburn.\u00a0 Julien Davenport and Chris Reed are the primary backups.<\/p>\n

The Colts defense gives up 118.8 yards per game on the ground and an average of 4.6 yards per carry.\u00a0 However, their run defense has been better recently.\u00a0 Their defense is still ranked within the top 5 because their takeaways are 2nd<\/sup> in the league.\u00a0 They allow 21.8 Points Per Game (9th<\/sup>) and 342.1 yards per game (13th<\/sup>)<\/p>\n

D Line<\/strong> \u2013 DT DeForest Bucker leads the D line in tackles with 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks.\u00a0 He is a force to be identified and a matchup that will be key for the Patriots.\u00a0 Grover Stewart has 38 tackles from the other DT position.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Defensive End Al-Quadin\u00a0Muhammad chips in with 37 tackles and 5 sacks.\u00a0 Kwity Paye is this year\u2019s 1st<\/sup> round pick out of Michigan and plays the other DE.<\/p>\n

Linebackers <\/strong>\u2013 The strength of the Colts’ defense is their LB.\u00a0 Darius Leonard is the leader.\u00a0 The 4th<\/sup> year player is the former Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2018, two-time All-Pro 1st<\/sup> team, and Second Team All-Pro in his three seasons.\u00a0 He is 2nd<\/sup> on the team in tackles with 97.\u00a0 MLB Bobby Okereke is a 3rd<\/sup> year pro from Stanford.\u00a0 The undersized (6\u20191\u201d 235 lb) backer leads the team in tackles with 107.\u00a0 He is that new type of LB in the mold of Kyle Dugger.\u00a0 \u00a0Zaire Franklin is listed as the Strongside Outside Linebacker, but he was added to the COVID-19 list on Monday and is likely out for Saturday night.\u00a0 Matt Adams is the probable starter.<\/p>\n

Secondary<\/strong> – \u00a0\u00a0Xavier Rhodes is an excellent shutdown CB but he has missed time this year.\u00a0 Healthy now, he has 31 tackles in 10 games with an INT. \u00a0\u00a0The other CB is Rock-Ya Sin.\u00a0 He has 25 tackles in10 games and no INT.\u00a0 Isaiah Rodgers is the nickel back and he has 29 tackles.\u00a0 The big play player in the secondary is Kenny Moore.\u00a0 He is the leading tackler in the secondary with 77, added a sack, 11 Pass Breakups, and 4 INT.<\/p>\n

With Rodrigo Blankenship on IR, the Colts added former Chargers kicker Michael Badgley.\u00a0 He is slightly above average and comes in ranked #10.\u00a0 Punter Rigoberto Sanchez is the 20th<\/sup> ranked punter despite playing half his games indoors, he has a low 41.5 net average.\u00a0 The Patriots will have a big advantage in the kicking game. \u00a0Nyheim Hines is ranked 16th<\/sup> in Punt Returners and the Pats Gunner Olzsewski is ranked 3rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 Again Hines doesn\u2019t have to deal with the elements.\u00a0 Isaiah Rodgers handles the Kick-Off duties.<\/p>\n

Injuries<\/strong> – The Colts are as healthy as they have been at any point in the season.\u00a0 They will be without Zaire Franklin as he is on the COVID list and is highly unlikely to be cleared for Saturday might.\u00a0 They are also coming off the bye week which is neutralized by the Patriots coming off the bye as well.\u00a0 The Patriots have really been screwed by the schedule makers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
