I took some time to transcribe Tom Brady\u2019s comments during HBO\u2019s recent, \u201cThe Shop Interrupted\u201d, which featured Tom Brady, Chelsea Handler, Kid Cudi, Draymond Green, Maverick Carter and Paul Rivera.<\/p>\n

From the promo, along with the follow-up comments:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThere was a story in free agency, one of the teams, they were interested, and then all of a sudden, they weren\u2019t interested at the very end,\u201d said Brady.\u00a0 \u201cI was sitting there thinking, you\u2019re sticking with that m\u2014\u2013f\u2014\u2013? Are you serious?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTom probably had no desire to go to that team, but now, it\u2019s like, \u201cwhy don\u2019t you want me?,\u201d said Rivera.<\/p>\n \u201cAbsolutely,\u201d said Brady.\u00a0 \u201cWhen I look back, I\u2019m like, I think no f\u2014-n way I would have went to that team, but they said they didn\u2019t want me and I know what means, I know what that feels like and I\u2019m going to f\u2013k you up because of that.\u201d<\/p>\n For anyone wondering what else was said, here\u2019s the entire transcript of his bits from the episode:<\/p>\n When the cast joked, \u201cTom, you keep winning for f\u2014-n forever\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s not happening, not forever, no.\u00a0 We\u2019re coming to the end\u2026it\u2019s coming to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n When told he didn\u2019t look like it was coming to an end \u2018at all\u2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSo much of it for me is about, having perspective.\u00a0 After a while, you go, \u2018holy s\u2013t, like, what happened?\u00a0 There was times where, yeah, I was young and really enjoyed the moment of sports and then thought, after we won our third Super Bowl, I was really young, 25, I made some comment like, \u2018man maybe there\u2019s more to life than this\u2019.\u00a0 And then we didn\u2019t win a Super Bowl for 10-years and I was like, \u2018F\u2013k man, this is really hard\u2019.\u00a0 And then the next time we won the Super Bowl was like the most amazing experience of my life because I had [the] perspective of not doing well and then, you know, taking it for granted when it did go well, and then realizing at this moment, \u2018Oh, my God, that was like, impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n On the most recent parade:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt was fun.\u00a0 I had been in the Northeast for twenty years you know, so it\u2019s like freezing cold.\u00a0 Every time we won, it was like 38 and you were freezing.\u00a0 By the end of the parade, you were like, \u2018Get me home\u2019.\u00a0 This, we\u2019re out on a boat, it\u2019s 85 degrees, we\u2019re drinking tequila all day and I\u2019ve got the Super Bowl trophy in my hand, I\u2019m in my boat, Chelsea [points to her] is where the other boat is, and I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m going to throw it to my boys over there.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cSo I throw it, and the bottom of this trophy is sharp, I mean, it could have gone so bad.\u201d<\/p>\n On the fact people on his boat were telling him it was a bad idea:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThat was my daughter.\u00a0 So she\u2019s 8-years old at the time and she goes, \u2018Daddy, daddy no, no, no, no, no!\u201d<\/p>\n On what it\u2019s like being the \u2018most judged athlete\u2019 in the world and where does the confidence come from?<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAt this point, I\u2019ve had a lot of experience and I think for me, I was very blessed to have the right people come into my life at the right time.\u00a0 Alex [Guerrero], my great friend, my brother, you know, he\u2019s out here with me today, I was struggling with how to take care of my body.\u00a0 I wanted to play sports, but my body hurt all the time.\u00a0 My right elbow hurt every time I threw, so I started working with them and all the pain in my elbow went away.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI take care of my body so that, when I go on the field, it\u2019s actually feeling great because every athlete loves to feel great.\u00a0 I see all these NBA guys getting hurt all the time.\u00a0 In my mind, I\u2019m thinking, it\u2019s so easy.\u00a0 You just, no offense, you don\u2019t have to run that far, you know what I mean?\u00a0 There\u2019s not a lot of contact.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got nice comfortable shoes on, you know what I mean?\u00a0 It\u2019s nice climate all the time.\u00a0 Man, if I was a basketball player, I always thought, \u201cLebron, man if he felt 100% every night, it would be scary.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been very fortunate to feel, not always 100%, but close to that.\u201d<\/p>\n Draymond Green on that comment:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI think there\u2019s always, you see it from your perspective, and we\u2019ll see it from our perspective.\u00a0 What we see as a basketball player is, well as a football player, I don\u2019t have to be in as great of shape because you stop after every play.\u00a0 You can get caught on a basketball court and be running for seven minutes straight without a timeout back and forth.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBy the way, I\u2019m not getting out there on a f\u2014-n football field.\u00a0 I\u2019m good on that.\u201d<\/p>\n On a previous comment where LeBron James pointed out that football players don\u2019t have to play both offense and defense:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a big comparison person like that, because it really just depends on what style you like.\u00a0 You could say, \u2018Well, you may be the most accomplished, I would say like, \u2018OK, yeah, I\u2019ve won a lot of games, Super Bowls and so forth, but my style of play might not fit everybody else\u2019s, what their view of that position should be.\u00a0 I can really just be the best\u00a0 with the body that I was given.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s certain things that I certainly cannot do and I had the awareness to realize, \u2018O.K., I can\u2019t do those things.\u00a0 You can\u2019t do everyone else\u2019s job.\u00a0 I can\u2019t block, tackle, run, catch.\u00a0 Sure as hell can\u2019t run, but I can throw the s\u2013t out of the ball, so let me just do that.\u00a0 Let me do that really well and I think if I can do that, then the team, certainly, could use me for that.\u201d<\/p>\n On his thoughts on Green holding back comments in interviews to not get fined:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAs long as I\u2019ve watched you play, I can\u2019t imagine you don\u2019t say what you think.\u00a0 I think, \u2018Wait a minute, you\u2019re holding back?\u00a0 What else is in there?\u201d<\/p>\n Green\u2019s response:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019d be shocked.\u00a0 I\u2019ve learned how to tailor it a little bit, you\u2019d be shocked, Tom.\u201d<\/p>\n On if there are moments where he\u2019d like to be like Green and say what he really thinks and take the fine:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhat I say vs what I think are two totally different things.\u00a0 I would say 90% of what I say is probably not what I\u2019m thinking which is challenging, you know?\u00a0 I really admire people that actually can do that and say what they think because they invite a lot of other things into their life.\u00a0 I think there\u2019s part of me that doesn\u2019t like conflict, so in the end, I just always try to play it super flat.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFrom a strategic standpoint, I never want to give away, like, what we\u2019re doing.\u00a0 I usually say the opposite.\u00a0 If they\u2019ve got a sh\u2014y corner, I\u2019ll be like, \u2018That guy\u2019s unbelievable.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even know how they complete balls over there.\u2019 In my mind, I\u2019m thinking, \u2018I\u2019m going to light that m\u2014\u2013f\u2014\u2013 up all-day.\u00a0 Because I don\u2019t want to give them any\u2026and then when it comes to other things, I think there\u2019s part of it that\u2019s \u2013 so much is giving other people your power, you know?\u00a0 Like, why can what Chelsea say really affect me?\u00a0 In my view, it shouldn\u2019t, or else, you have power over me based on what you say.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI try to think a lot before I speak.\u00a0 Some people, like my wife, for example, she just let\u2019s it come out.\u00a0 It\u2019s like foom, and it\u2019s out, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Holy s\u2013t\u2019 and you know what? She\u2019s right.\u00a0 Her instincts and her nature is usually right with a lot of the things that she says and thinks and I\u2019m always like, \u2018How does she do that because I\u2019ve got to think about it for five or ten minutes and think, \u2018How do I really deal with this particular situation or answer because I don\u2019t want to say something that in the end, I\u2019ll be like, \u2018(sighs)\u2026I wish I had said something different.\u201d<\/p>\n
