With Joe Judge taking the New York Giants Head Coach position, he poached few coaches from the Patriots and Dolphins.\u00a0 Bret Bielma (DL Patriots) and Patrick Graham (DC former Pats and Dolphins coach).\u00a0 Dante Scarnecchia retired.\u00a0 So there are a few holes in the coaching staff.\u00a0 Here is what I know about the staff as of today:<\/p>\n
OL \u2013 Carmen Bacillio, Cole Popovich \u2013 Bacillio served under Scarnecchia last season so the teaching method should be the same.\u00a0 Bacillio spent 9 years as OL coach at Youngstown State.\u00a0 Popovich was the Asst RB coach the last two years.<\/p>\n
RB \u2013 Ivan Fears – Fears is the dean the assistant coaches, now in his 27th<\/sup> year.<\/p>\n WR \u2013 Mick Lombardi – He moves on from QB coach.\u00a0 Lombardi is the son of Mike Lombardi, the former confidant of Bill Belichick. \u00a0Troy Brown is not listed as an official coach, but he is at all the practices and can be seen on the sideline during games.<\/p>\n TE \u2013 Nick Caley – Caley will have his work cut out for him this year with two and possibly three new TE\u2019s.<\/p>\n QB \u2013 Jedd Fisch – The former LA Rams OC has joined the Patriots.\u00a0 He has quite the history, which I will get into later.<\/p>\n OC \u2013 Josh McDaniels \u2013 I would think he either ascends to head coach next year or this will be his last with the team.<\/p>\n DL \u2013 TBD – I am thinking that DeMarcus Covington (OLB Coach) might be moved here.\u00a0 I think James Develin will also have a role on the Patriots coaching staff too.\u00a0 DL might be a nice place to start.\u00a0 Develin played DT at Brown.<\/p>\n LB – Jerod Mayo \u2013 He has turned out to be a great assistant coach.\u00a0 The players can really relate to him.\u00a0 The story is that Mayo was able to teach Draft Pick Josh Uche the LB position for the Patriots in two days.<\/p>\n CB \u2013 Mike Pelligrino \u2013 This will be his 5th<\/sup> year with the team starting as an Intern, moving on to Coaching Assistant and now for the 1st<\/sup> time a position coach.\u00a0 Pelegrino graduated from Johns Hopkins and was a two time All American Lacrosse player.\u00a0 He even played for the Boston Cannons while coaching for the Patriots.<\/p>\n S \u2013 Stephen Belichick – This will be his 8th<\/sup> season.\u00a0 He appeared to be calling the defensive signals last season.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be surprised if he is named DC.<\/p>\n ST \u2013 Cam Achord – Anchord will take over for Judge.\u00a0 He practically ran the ST last year as Judge also had WR responsibility.\u00a0 Former Alabama Safety, Vinnie Sunseri was signed to help with ST.<\/p>\n Coaching Asst \u2013 Brian Belichick – His exact role is unknown, but this is his 4th<\/sup> season<\/p>\n Special Asst to Head Coach \u2013 Eliot Wolf – He takes over the position that Mike Lombardi had.\u00a0 Wolf was the former Asst GM for Cleveland and was ousted when new GM Berry came to CLE.\u00a0 Wolf worked for SEA prior to the draft attending the combine.<\/p>\n Ernie Adams \u2013 Special Assistant \u2013 He is not listed on the coaching staff but has an office in the building.<\/p>\n Other Tidbits<\/strong><\/p>\n – The Rams are reportedly upset with the League in the way the schedule played out for their home game with the Patriots.\u00a0 The Rams are coming off a road game to play the Patriots on Thursday.\u00a0 The Patriots are playing the LA Chargers in LA and staying on the west coast to play the Rams in the same stadium.\u00a0 That is the only break the Patriots got with the #1 toughest schedule in the league.\u00a0 I say to the Rams, shut your trap, prepare for the game and play 4 quarters.<\/p>\n – What a coincidence the Patriots and Tampa Bay Bucs only play at the same time twice all year.\u00a0 These are both Eastern Time Zone teams, which means each club should have had more games at the same time.\u00a0 The Patriots have 5 prime time games, several 4:30 games.\u00a0 So what if the league wanted them playing at different times.\u00a0 More power to them.<\/p>\n – Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland are out for ESPN\u2019s Monday Night Football.\u00a0 Both will be retained by ESPN.\u00a0 I liked both announcers and though they did a good job.\u00a0 I will be following this to see who replaces them.\u00a0 During the season, I will be reporting on the media and their delivery to the public.<\/p>\n – Do you remember the Commissioner, Roger Goodell, putting out a challenge and prize of watching a Monday Night Football game with him in his mancave?\u00a0 The money raised as part of the Draft \u2013 A \u2013Thon to raise money that would go to COVID-19 relief?\u00a0 Well \u2026 the auction got a high bid of $250K.\u00a0 Fantastic for COVID19 relief.\u00a0 However, this just backfired on Goodell.\u00a0 The winner was none other than the biggest critic of Goodell, David Portnoy of Barstool Sports.\u00a0 Would love to be a fly on the wall for that game!\u00a0 Hope Goodell follows through with hosting this.<\/p>\n – In an article written by Jeff Howe of the Athletic, he points out that Jedd Fisch was the WR coach at Michigan when Devin Asiasi was a freshman recruit.\u00a0 The next season, Fisch took the OC position at UCLA under Jim Mora.\u00a0 Asiasi transferred to UCLA.\u00a0 Fisch moved on to LA Rams when Chip Kelly came on board at UCLA.\u00a0 Supposedly, Belichick called Kelly while he was on the clock for the Asiasi trade and selection.\u00a0 Think they had some inside information on Asiasi.\u00a0 The article goes on and tells of Asiasi \u2018s high character despite getting a three game suspension for breaking team rules.\u00a0 Chip Kelly said Asiasi owned the incident and it made him a better person.\u00a0 Coach Jim Mora said \u201cHe is a great pick for that place\u201d.<\/p>\n
