The New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> head back out on the road after a very successful three-game home stand where they ran their record to 8-0. This week they take on the New York Giants in the New Jersey Meadowlands on Sunday afternoon. The game is broadcast by CBS with their top announcing crew of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on the call and will be televised locally on WBZ-TV. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. The Patriots radio play-by-play is handled as always by Bob Socci and Scott Zolak and can be heard on 98.5 the Sports Hub.<\/p>\n

The Patriots (8-0), beat the Washington Redskins last week 27-10 as Tom Brady passed for 299 yards and two touchdowns. LaGarrette Blount had a career high 29 carries for 129 yards in the win.<\/p>\n

A win by the Patriots on Sunday will guarantee them their 15th<\/sup> straight winning season. The\u00a0Pats\u00a0will join San Francisco and Dallas each with 16 straight winning seasons as the only teams with a winning record for 15 or more seasons in a row.<\/p>\n

The Giants (5-4), beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32-18 on the road last week as Eli Manning tossed two touchdowns and WR Odell Beckham Jr. had over 100 yards receiving in the win. New York leads the NFC East with a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

We here at\u00a0PatsFans.com<\/a>\u00a0are continuing our \u00a0\u201cRazor\u2019s Edge\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 column in 2015 to give a quick break down on some of the key matchups of the game and what you can look for in how the game plays out.<\/p>\n

Series History: <\/strong>The Patriots and Giants have met just 11 times in their history although the teams regularly meet at the end of preseason. The Giants hold a 6-5 all-time advantage in these meetings including the last three in a row.<\/p>\n

The teams last met in February 2012 the Giants beat the Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI. They also beat the Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl XLII. Oddly enough the Patriots own a 3-1 lifetime mark against the Giants in New York.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at some of the key matchups and who holds the Razor\u2019s Edge.<\/p>\n

First up is the Patriots offense:<\/p>\n

Patriots RBs vs Giants Front Seven – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>The Patriots haven\u2019t been great at running the ball in 2015 but a lot of it was by design. Facing tough run defenses in Buffalo and the Jets, they eschewed the running game for the short passing game. Blount played his most snaps of the season last week and was rewarded with a big 129 yard game. The team will miss Dion Lewis but James White and Brandon Bolden will pick-up the slack as best they can.<\/p>\n

The Giants run defense has been steadily sliding downhill the past month plus. Last week they lost their best run stuffer Johnathan Hankins and even against a beat up offensive line in New England, the Patriots should find some gaps to run in.<\/p>\n

Patriots WRs vs Giants Secondary – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>As always the Patriots offense depends upon keeping Tom Brady upright. The Patriots have a huge advantage over the injured secondary of the G-men with Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and James White out of the backfield. They have too many weapons for the Giants to cover. Look for Gronkowski against their backup linebackers and LaFell to be frequent targets for Brady and to have big games.<\/p>\n

The Giants have had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL in 2015 giving up an average of 308 yards per game, last in the league. They only have nine sacks as a team but did get back pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul last week and he has already made his presence known. But with their best cornerback Prince Amukamara still injured, this has the makings of a huge mismatch.<\/p>\n

Look for Brady to pick on back-up cornerback Jayron Hosely, the fill-in for Amukamara. The 4th<\/sup> year corner has struggled and with so many weapons in the arsenal for NE, they\u2019ll look to single him up. Unless the Giants manufacture a lot better pass rush this week, Brady will make it a long afternoon for the defense.<\/p>\n

Next up the Giants offense:<\/p>\n

Giants RBs vs NE Front Seven –\u00a0<\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>The G-Men use a running back by committee with Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, Orleans Darkwa and former Patriot Shane Vereen. The Giants haven\u2019t been very effective running the ball this season averaging only 96.7 yards per game.<\/p>\n

The Patriot front seven has really turned it up a notch with their run defense the past month. They\u2019ve leapt to the 7th<\/sup> best run defense, allowing only 89 yards per game. Alan Branch is playing his best football since coming to New England and he, rookie Malcom Brown, Dominique Easley and Sealver Siliga have a nice rotation going inside.<\/p>\n

New England should be able to bottle up the Giants running game as the front four can slow things up at the point of attack and LBs Dont’a Hightower and Jamie Collins can jump up and make some plays.<\/p>\n

Giants WRs vs NE Secondary- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New York
\n<\/em>This week\u2019s game will be the stiffest test that the Patriots have faced thru the air since opening night, perhaps this season. Eli Manning is having a very solid season and has Odell Beckham Jr. as his favorite target. The 2nd<\/sup> year WR is already one of the better receivers in football and will be the main focus of the Patriots defense. Rueben Randle is still bothered by a sore hamstring that is limiting his ability to go deep.<\/p>\n

The Patriots will have to bring pressure on Manning Sunday and they\u2019ll rely on DEs Chandler Jones who leads the league with 9.5 sacks, Rob Ninkovich and hopefully Jabaal Sheard who\u2019s missed the past several games but also has 4.0 sacks.\u00a0CBs\u00a0Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler \u00a0and slot corner Justin Coleman will have their hands full with the Giants receivers. Safeties Devin McCourty will have to provide over the top help with Beckham along with Duron Harmon. Pat Chung will play closer to the box and help underneath.<\/p>\n

Look for Manning to use Dwayne Harris and Shane Vereen out of the backfield to his advantage on Sunday. No one knows the NE defense better than Vereen and he\u2019s always been a handful for linebackers. Jamie Collins, if he\u2019s healthy this week, will have the task of hanging with his former teammate.<\/p>\n

Special Teams- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New York
\n<\/em>The Patriots have two very reliable, steady kickers in punter Ryan Allen and K Stephen Gostkowski. Gostkowski is 19 of 19 on field goals in 2015 which includes three from 50 yards or more. He\u2019s putting nearly 75 percent of his kickoffs out of the end zone. The coverage units have been solid although the return game hasn\u2019t been as productive lately.<\/p>\n

The Giants kicker Josh Brown has made 23 straight field goals heading back to last season and P Brad Wing is averaging 45.2 yards per punt. The Giants coverage units have been solid and returner Dwayne Harris leads the league with a 33.0 yards per kickoff return, including a 100 yarder against his former team in Dallas. The Giants have also blocked a punt this season.This is one of the few times this season that New England doesn\u2019t have an advantage in STs.<\/p>\n

Next up\u2026 a prediction on who wins and why:<\/p>\n

Prediction:
\n<\/strong>The Patriots on paper should win this game, but games aren\u2019t played on paper. The Giants and Coughlin always play the Pats tough. Defensive coordinator and Grafton, Mass native Steve Spagnuolo always comes up with a creative game plan to slow down and frustrate Tom Brady.<\/p>\n

But this Giants defense isn\u2019t the equal of those teams in the recent past. They\u2019ve been gashed in the passing game and the pass rush hasn\u2019t been effective enough to help out a beat-up and beleaguered secondary.<\/p>\n

Look for Brady to spread them out and pick them apart with the short passing game. Manning and the Giants will look to do much of the same with the underneath stuff and then try to hit the deep ball with Beckham. This one should be much higher scoring than those two Super Bowls and could fall into an old-fashioned shootout.<\/p>\n

The Patriots pass rush will ultimately provide them with a couple of more stops as the tide flips this time in the Meadowlands. New England will improve to 9-0 and win a tough victory\u00a0on the road. Patriots 35-24<\/strong><\/p>\n
