The New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> return home to find themselves atop of the AFC East with the Jets at 2-0 after their big win over Buffalo. They host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised locally by WBZ-TV on CBS and will again feature Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon to handle play-by-play and analyst duties. They covered last week\u2019s game in Buffalo.<\/p>\n

The Patriots won a much anticipated matchup against the Bills last week 40-32. Tom Brady passed for 466 yards and three touchdowns and needs only one more to break the 400 TD Pass plateau. \u00a0New England would love to head into the bye week at 3-0 and then have two weeks to prepare for the Dallas Cowboys.<\/p>\n

The Jags upset the Miami Dolphins 23-20 last week evening their record at 1-1. WR Allen Robinson caught 7 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. It was a huge win for a franchise that struggled mightily out of the gate in both 2013 and last season. Gus Bradley is slowly turning the corner with this young team that still has a long way to go.<\/p>\n

We here at\u00a0PatsFans.com<\/a>\u00a0are continuing our \u00a0\u201cRazor\u2019s Edge\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 column in 2015 to give a quick break down on some of the key matchups of the game and what you can look for in how the game plays out.<\/p>\n

Series History: <\/strong>The Patriots and Jaguars don\u2019t have a lot of history of playing one another having only met 10 times since 1995, but four of those games have been in the playoffs. The Patriots hold an overall advantage of 9-1 in those contests, having won all six home games against the Jaguars.<\/p>\n

The teams last met in 2012 with the Patriots edging the Jags 23-16 in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at some of the key matchups and who holds the Razor\u2019s Edge.<\/p>\n

First up is the Patriots offense:<\/p>\n

Patriots RBs vs Jaguars Front Seven – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Jacksonville
\n<\/em>The Patriots have only rushed for an average of 68 yards in their first two games of 2015 but it has been as much about scheme as it was about performance. Rather than try to bludgeon their way against two stout rushing defenses, they opted to spread them out and put their trust in Brady.<\/p>\n

This week we should see more of LaGarrette Blount in the running game, he was barely an afterthought in Buffalo but don\u2019t be surprised if Bill Belichick stays with the hot hand with Dion Lewis and ride him to continue getting everything they can out of him.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars run defense has been stout thus far, allowing Miami only 42 yards on the ground. Their front four is big and physical. This week they\u2019ll find the going tougher but the passing game may open up some breathing room for the running backs.<\/p>\n

Patriots WRs vs Jaguars Secondary – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Patriots
\n<\/em>As always with the Patriots as goes Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, so goes the offense. The young offensive line held up against Buffalo helped by Brady getting rid of the ball in an average time of 1.9 seconds from snap to throw.<\/p>\n

The Jags corners are big and Brady will no doubt be aware of where Jared Odrick is at all times rushing off the left DE slot. We spoke Jaguars beat writer Ryan O\u2019Halloran<\/strong> this week and he had some interesting tidbits.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe big question for Jacksonville is do they add an extra defensive back and play a lot of nickel this week? If so, it takes their best linebacker (Dan Skuta), off the field,\u201d he said. \u201cI think they\u2019ll attempt to play a lot of Cover-3 on Sunday and try to mix things up but their weakness the past few years has been covering tight ends, and Gronkowski is a tough matchup for anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

One other note, former Colts FS Sergio Brown will be the starter for Jacksonville. Fans will remember Gronk \u201cthrowing him out of the club\u201d in Indy last year. There\u2019s no love lost there and this could bring out some fireworks.<\/p>\n

Next up the Jacksonville offense:<\/p>\n

Jaguars RBs vs NE Front Seven –\u00a0<\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>Jacksonville rookie RB T.J. Yeldon is emerging for the Jaguars in the running game. Last week they were balanced (33 passes, 33 runs), and the Crimson Tide alum Yeldon had 25 of those. Running back depth is thin due to injuries to Toby Gerhart and Dennard Robinson.<\/p>\n

The Patriots run defense was gashed on Buffalo\u2019s first drive of the game and late after the game got out of hand but improved after they made some adjustments. The big men inside Sealver Siliga, Alan Branch and Malcom Brown will have to step up again this week.<\/p>\n

Jacksonville\u2019s best hope for an upset win is to keep NE\u2019s offense off the field and control the ball but running effectively. Dont\u2019a Hightower may be a big factor in this one as he\u2019ll try to support the running defense and blitz up the A-Gap to disrupt things.<\/p>\n

Jaguars WRs vs NE Secondary- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>Blake Bortles is the quarterback that Jacksonville has decided that they\u2019ll hitch their wagon to. The big 6\u20195, 245 lb had arguably his best game as a pro last week and had a QB rating over 100 for the first time. He has some young talent at the receiver position with Allen Robinson, Marquise Lee and Allen Hurns. They miss Julius Thomas who is out with an injury right now.<\/p>\n

The Patriots dialed up the pass rush last week in Buffalo and sacked Tyrod Taylor eight times. They\u2019ll have to stay disciplined in their gaps as Bortles can extend plays with his feet. Malcolm Butler will probably see a lot of Robinson this week.<\/p>\n

Special Teams- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>The Patriots have two very reliable, steady kickers in punter Ryan Allen and K Stephen Gostkowski. Gostkowski has made 419 consectutive extra points and needs only three more to tie the NFL record held by Matt Stover.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars\u2019 Jason Myers hit a clutch field goal at crunch time to beat the Dolphins last week and punter Bryan Angerer has a 45.7 yard average.<\/p>\n

The Patriots always have one of the best STs units in the league and this season is not exception. Playing at home helps in the kicking game as well. Next up…Prediction. Who wins and by how much?<\/p>\n

Prediction:
\n<\/strong>The Patriots on paper should handle the Jaguars, but so should have Miami last week. With the early bye week approaching after this game, Belichick should have the team motivated to go out 3-0 which would be an improvement over last season\u2019s slow start.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Halloran stated that after starting slowly the past two seasons, it will be interesting to see how the Jags handle a little bit of early season success. They can\u2019t afford to rest much on last week with a trip to Gillette on the schedule this weekend.<\/p>\n

Unless the Patriots turn the ball over and get hit with a Brady pick-six early in this game, they should be able to move the ball through the air and keep the young Jags on their heels in this one. The key is to start early and put pressure on Bortles and Jacksonville\u2019s offense to keep up. The Jags are averaging only 16 points per game and this won\u2019t be enough to keep up with Brady and Co. especially at home.<\/p>\n

Brady and Gronkowski continue their hot hand and the defense come up with a turnover or two and the team goes into the bye week 3-0. Patriots 31-14<\/strong><\/p>\n
