The New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> travel to Orchard Park, New York to take on the division rival Buffalo Bills in Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised locally on WBZ-TV with Kevin Harlan doing the play-by-play and Rich Gannon handling the color man duties.<\/p>\n

The Patriots (1-0) beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21 in their opener when Tom Brady passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns. At one point Brady completed 19 in a row, a franchise record. Rob Gronkowski had three touchdowns and 94 yards receiving.<\/p>\n

The Bills (1-0) beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-14 at home last Sunday. The Bills defense intercepted Andrew Luck twice and new QB Tyrod Taylor, making his first NFL start completed 15-19 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

We here at\u00a0PatsFans.com<\/a>\u00a0are continuing our \u00a0\u201cRazor\u2019s Edge\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 column in 2015 to give a quick break down on some of the key matchups of the game and what you can look for in how the game plays out.<\/p>\n

Series History:<\/strong>
\nThe Patriots and Bills have met 110 times with the Patriots holding a 67-42-1 overall edge in the series. In Buffalo, once again New England holds a 32-22-1 advantage. In recent years the Patriots have dominated Buffalo with Tom Brady holding a 23-3 edge overall against the Bills. The last meeting was won by Buffalo on the last week of the 2014 season. With the division and home field advantage wrapped up, the Pats sat most of the skill position players and the Bills triumphed 17-9.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at some of the key matchups and who holds the Razor\u2019s Edge.<\/p>\n

First up is the Patriots offense:<\/p>\n

Patriots RBs vs Bills Front Seven – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Buffalo
\n<\/em>The Patriots get back LaGarrette Blount this week, which will definitely help the team, long term as the big back in the offense to go along with the three change of pace backs. Buffalo\u2019s defense, especially the front four is very good at stopping the run and going against a very young Patriots offensive line that didn\u2019t excel in the running game last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nDion Lewis has been impressive in the early going for NE.

Look for Blount to get some carries along with some quick hitters by Dion Lewis to keep the defense honest and get them to respect play action. But they won\u2019t have a lot of room to run this week.<\/p>\n

Patriots WRs vs Bills Secondary – <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Patriots
\n<\/em>The Patriots key here as always is protecting Tom Brady; when the offensive line does a good job of protecting Brady, generally very good things happen in the offense. Rex Ryan has traditionally done a good job of slowing down the NE offense<\/a> with his aggressive schemes and with the aforementioned pass rush with the front four it will be a difficult task this week.<\/p>\n

Look for a big matchup between Julian Edelman and Stephon Gilmore; in beating the pressure it will be Edelman\u2019s job to beat the jam at the line and get the ball for yards after catch. New England\u2019s two tight end offense with Rob Gronkowski and Scott Chandler will be a tough one to stop for the Bills LBs.<\/p>\n

Next up the Buffalo offense:<\/p>\n

Bills RBs vs NE Front Seven –\u00a0<\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Buffalo
\n<\/em>Gone are long-time Bills Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller; now they have LeSean McCoy and the SF running style QB Tyrod Taylor. McCoy was a big pickup for Buffalo and will be looking to get untracked against a NE team that wasn\u2019t stout against the run last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nLook for Jabaal Sheard to be a big impact player for the Patriots this week.

The Patriots defense played a light front last week vs the Steelers but look for more of a base look this week against McCoy and the Bills. Buffalo\u2019s offensive line is still a question mark, but they should find some room for Taylor to run. Running QBs have given them issues in the past.<\/p>\n

Bills WRs vs NE Secondary- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge New England
\n<\/em>Taylor is making just his second start in the NFL this week and while he played well last week and has a number of good weapons around him, he\u2019s still a long way from a proven starter. Sammie Watkins and Percy Harvin will be another good test for the Pats CBs Malcolm Butler and Tarell Brown.<\/p>\n

A big matchup will be TE Charles Clay against the NE linebackers. Clay has given them problems in the past. New England\u2019s pass rush, dormant last week was expected to be much stronger. This would be a good time to get it going and force the inexperienced Taylor into making mistakes. That\u2019s something Bill Belichick\u2019s defenses are also quite adept at.<\/p>\n

Special Teams- <\/strong>Razor\u2019s Edge Patriots
\n<\/em>Very close to being a push here, the Bills and Patriots always have two of the best STs units in the league. Both teams have very solid coverage on both punts and kickoffs.<\/p>\n

The Bills have veteran kicker Dan Carpenter and punter Colton Schmidt. Carpenter was challenged by Ryan in training camp after a lackluster summer. Schmidt averaged over 50 yards per punt in the opener. They also have the dangerous Harvin in the return game.<\/p>\n

The Patriots have steady, dependable kickers Stephen Gostkowski and Ryan Allen. Julian Edelman is always a dangerous returner and a threat to flip field position every time he touches the ball. Gostkowski gives NE the slightest of advantages here overall. Next….Prediction, who comes out on top.<\/p>\n

Prediction:
\n<\/strong>The stadium will be insanely loud as the Bills fans, hungry for a playoff team after a long post-season drought have gone all-in on Ryan and the new look Bills. They will boast a top 5 defense in 2015 and have improved their weapons on offense. It will be up to Tyrod Taylor to try to piece it all together.<\/p>\n

When the schedule first came out, I chalked this one up as a Patriots loss; they traditionally start slow coming out of the gate, especially with their first road game. Flashback to the 2nd<\/sup> game of the 2009 season, Mark Sanchez and the Jets beat the Patriots 16-9. The young QB becoming the \u201cSanchize\u201d with all the hype that followed.<\/p>\n

But this time the typical Ryan over-the-top quotes with way too much trash talking by a Bills team that is 3-23 against Brady and Belichick may have woken the sleeping giant. This Patriots team is already mad at the off-season ridiculousness that followed Deflategate. Then they had to listen to the increased \u201ccheating\u201d whining of Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers following their loss after Thursday\u2019s opener.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t be a pretty one and it won\u2019t be easy, but Brady and Pats hold serve in Buffalo. Patriots 27-21<\/strong><\/p>\n
