Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman put together one of the most productive careers at the position during his 11 pro seasons in Foxborough. Over that span, Edelman logged 6,822 receiving yards (fourth in Patriots history) with 620 receptions (second in Patriots history) and 36 touchdowns in the regular season.

However, it was in the playoffs where Edelman shined the most. In 19 career playoff games, Edelman caught 118 passes for 1,442 yards, ranking second only to Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in career postseason totals for both categories and helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls.

So needless to say, Edelman’s resume speaks for itself and a spot in the Patriots Hall of Fame is all but a forgone conclusion.

However, because we live in a world where sports takes are always flying, especially on social media, one reporter in Chicago felt the need to diminish Edelman’s success, whether by accident or to get attention when he tweeted out that current Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp “is the wide receiver y’all kept trying to convince us Julian Edelman was”.

Now it goes without saying, Cupp is undoubtedly one of the best receivers in the game today, and he’s only gotten better with Matthew Stafford as his quarterback. Presently Cupp has 122 receptions for 1,625 yards and 14 touchdowns, all of which lead the NFL, and has generated interest that he could become the first receiver since Steve Smith in 2005 to win the receiving “triple crown”.

Despite all this, Cupp still has a long way to go in his career and some Patriots fans on Twitter didn’t take too kindly to the reporter using Kupp’s success as a way to put down Edelman.

Eventually, the response to the tweet generated enough (negative) buzz where Edelman not only found it but responded to the reporter with a priceless “clap back” reminding him about the Super Bowl rings but still showing his respect to Kupp.

Looks like even in retirement Jules is still collecting wins over the Rams, well played.
