Linebacker Matthew Judon has been nothing but an exemplary player on the New England Patriots both on and off the field this season and on Wednesday earned his first of many honors for his efforts this year.

Judon was named the 2021 “Ron Hobson Good Guy Award” from the Patriots chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) for being both “helpful, available, and accommodating” to the media throughout the season.

“Thanks y’all,” Judon said during his Wednesday press conference. “I can only be me. I come in here and some days it’s better than others. Especially after a win, it’s easier to talk to you guys. But y’all do your job with a lot of dignity and class and it makes it a lot easier to talk to y’all.”

Handed out by the PFWA since 2016, the award is named in honor of sportswriter Ron Hobson, who covered the Patriots from 1961 until his retirement in January 2010 for the Quincy, MA-based newspaper The Patriot Ledger. Among his fellow reporters, Hobson earned the nickname “The Humble One”.

Previous winners of the award include Matthew Slater (2016), Devin McCourty (2017), James White (2018), Stephon Gilmore (2019), and Cam Newton (2020).

Judon meanwhile heads into Week 16 with a career-high 12.5 sacks along with 25 QB hits and 34 solo tackles putting him right in the conversation for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year and a Pro Bowl invitation.
