Of all the accolades and achievements New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has earned over his coaching career, winning an Emmy award probably goes down as one of the most unexpected, but sure enough he did in earn one thanks to his work as an analyst on the “NFL 100 All Time Team” program that aired back in 2019 on NFL Network.
The show, which consisted of a panel of experts that included Belichick, put together a team comprised of who they felt were the 100 greatest players in NFL history to coincide with league celebrating its 100th anniversary season.
The normally reserved Belichick, opened up more than usual on camera during the show and as a result received rave reviews for his extensive insight due to years of experience within the league and his encyclopedia-like football mind.
“It was a great honor for me to be a part of the selection process and to be a part of the show,” Belichick said in 2019. “There are obviously thousands of great NFL players and coaches, legends involved in the game, many of whom I’ve watched, observed or studied my entire life. So it was a tremendous process, very difficult in terms of the selection, but it was a great honor to be apart of it.”
Unfortunately, like most award presentations and ceremonies in 2020, Belichick was unable to receive his Sports Emmy in person due to the pandemic, but during a Patriots team field trip to NFL Films headquarters in Mt. Laurel, NJ this week, he was finally able to pick up the trophy in person.
The Patriots later shared a photograph of Belichick holding his latest piece of hardware in a posting to social media.
