My one and only 1st Round Mock

#1 Jacksonville – Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson

No question about this pick!

#2 New York Jets – Zack Wilson QB BYU

The 2nd best QB in the draft.  NYJ pick has been known for weeks.

#3 San Francisco – Mac Jones QB Alabama

This is where the draft begins.  Scouts want Trey Lance but Shanahan wants Mac Jones.  The subplot will be if Jimmy Garoppolo is traded.

#4 Atlanta – Kyle Pitts TE Florida

Falcons listened to trade offers but their demands were too much.  Pitts may make way for the Julio Jones trade.

#5 Cincinnati – J’Marr Chase WR LSU

Joe Burrows gets re-united with College teammate Chase

#6 Miami – Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama

This is why Miami traded up.  They wanted one of the top three WRs.

#7 Detroit – Trey Lance QB North Dakota State

Wouldn’t be surprised if Detroit trades this pick or if they actually took Lance.

#8 Carolina –  Penni Sewell OT Oregon

They have traded for Sam Donald, now they need someone to protect him

#9 Denver – Justin Fields QB Ohio State

Denver just acquired Teddy Bridgewater as a bridge QB until Fields is ready.

#10 Dallas – Patrick Surtain CB Alabama

Unquestionably the best DB in the draft.  Dallas has defense problems, this helps.

#11 New York Giants – DeVonta Smith WR Alabama

Too good to pass up.  They will wait till 2nd round for DE help.

#12 Philadelphia – Kwitty Paye DE Michigan

Rumor is they are enamored with Paye.  Hoping he gets by NYG.

#13 Los Angeles Chargers – Alijah Vera-Tucker OT USC

LAC O line is a mess and Vera-Tucker’s versatility will help.

#14 Minnesota – Rashawn Slater OT Northwestern

Solid but not sexy selection.  Should be a standout for more than a decade.

#15 NE Patriots – TRADE Pats trade #15 & #122 to the Washington Football Team for #19 and #74

Washington selects Micha Parsons

LB with RB speed.  Can play inside or out

#16 Arizona – Jeremiah Owansu-Koramorah LB/S Notre Dame

They have some serious problems in their secondary.

#17 Las Vegas – Jaelen Phillips Edge Miami

Can’t pass on his speed, replacing Carl Nassib.

#18 Miami –  Christian Darrisaw OT Virginia Tech

Miami adds to their Blue Chip haul.  They are moving Robert Hunt to G.

#19 NE Patriots (from WAS) – Jaycee Horn CB South Carolina

The 2nd best DB in the draft.  Patriots needed another starting-caliber CB due to JC Jackson and Stephon Gilmore’s contract issues for 2022.

#20 Chicago – Greg Newsome CB Northwestern

Very close to Horn on ability, but played fewer games in Big Ten could be the deciding factor.

#21 Indianapolis – Samuel Cosmi OT Texas

Castonzo retired and they signed Sam Tevi, but Cosmi could be a long-term anchor of the OL.

#22  Tennessee – Greg Rousseau Edge Miami

Despite injury concerns two Miami edge players are 1st round picks

#23 New York Jets – Najee Harris RB Alabama

Pittsburgh isn’t happy with this.  Another skilled player.

#24 Pittsburgh – Travis Etienne RB Clemson

Wanted Harris, settled for Etienne.  Surprised two RBs taken in 1st rd.

#25 Jacksonville – Tyson Campbell CB Georgia

Underrated CB who should help Jacksonville

#26 Cleveland – Rashod Bateman WR Minnesota

Too good to pass on. A big receiver that makes big plays.

#27 Baltimore – Elijah Moore WR Mississippi State

Small but electric wideout.

#28 New Orleans- Christian Barmore

Top DT in a weak draft for DTs

#29 Green Bay – Kadarius Toney

Lightning-fast WR that give Rodgers another weapon to work with

#30 Buffalo – Jason Oweh Edge Penn St.

Incredibly fast but not productive DE

#31 Baltimore – Zaven Collins ILB Tulsa

Surprise 1st round pick with all the physical attributes

#32 Tampa Bay- Landon Dickerson C Alabama

Knee injuries are a concern but his physical ability isn’t.  Luxury pick they can wait a year for him to heal.

About Mark Morse

Merrimack Valley native and lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. My earliest memories of the Patriots were attending as a child with my dad, the off-season practice at Phillips Academy. I was at the Patriots game at Harvard Stadium in 1970 where Bob “Harpo” Gladieux was called out of the stands by the stadium announcer over the PA to play in the game. Analyzing the draft since ESPN first started to televise it in 1980 and former writer for the Lowell Sun Newspaper.

I doubt AZ passes up Horn at 16.
