As New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman continues to work his way back to the football field, he took a pause from football this past weekend to begin the celebrations of Hanukkah.

Edelman, who has become a practicing member of the Jewish faith since joining the NFL, took time over Instagram with a message for fans who also celebrate the holiday.

“Hanukkah is a special holiday for the Jewish people.” Edelman wrote.  “It marks the celebration of perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds and also an honoring of the gifts we have in life. 2020 is tough for all of us, but let these candles be a reminder that we are also blessed with life. Hanukkah is the official holiday of “tough times don’t last, tough people do”!”

Edelman has become a vocal supporter of his religion the past few seasons.

Back over the summer, Edelman invited Philadelphia Eagles wide reciever DeSean Jackson to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC in response to anti-Semitic comments made by Jackson. While earlier this spring, Edelman was reportedly studying for his Bar Mitzvah.

From everyone at PatsFans, Happy Hanukkah to all celebrating!
