The New England Patriots bolstered their wide receiver depth on Tuesday, trading for Isaiah Ford of the Miami Dolphins for a 2022 conditional sixth-round pick.

A seventh round draft pick out of Virginia Tech in 2017, Ford has played in 16 career games and has 41 receptions for 428 yards.

After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, Ford split time between the Dolphins practice squad and 53-man roster in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, Ford has recorded 18 receptions for 184 yards in seven games.

The deal marks the first trade between the Dolphins and Patriots since Miami sent Wes Welker to New England for a second and seventh round draft pick in March of 2007.

On Wednesday morning, Ford tweeted out his reaction to the trade.

Due to NFL COVID-19 testing protocols, Ford will not have enough time to be ready to play in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Ford signed a one-year contract worth $750,000 with the Dolphins before this season. He will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.
