New England Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona voiced his thoughts on the upcoming name change to the Washington NFL franchise on Monday over social media.

In an Instagram posting that featured a photo from last seasons game between the two franchises, Cardona bid farewell to the old name, writing “Later Washington Racial Slurs” in a caption, then responded to a fans question regarding what he thinks the teams new name should be.

Cardona suggested to the fan that “Redtails” would be his choice as an appropriate name because it would honor the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of US Amy Air Force fighter and bomber pilots that fought during World War II and broke the color barrier as the first ever African-American military aviators.

The airmen earned their “Red Tails” nickname after one squadron of pilots decided to paint the tails of its planes with a distinctive red color.

Presently, the Washington NFL franchise hasn’t announced a specific timeline as to when a new name will be announced, but as of Monday, “Redskins” was retired “effective immediately” according to a press release.

According to bookmakers, the Redtails are the early favorites at 3-1 while Generals (4-1), and and Presidents (5-1) round out the top three name possibilities.
