On Monday night, free agent linebacker Jamie Collins signed a three-year deal worth $30 million with the Detroit Lions. The deal included $18 million guaranteed per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The move reunites Collins with his former Patriots defensive coordinator turned Lions head coach Matt Patricia.
A second round draft pick of the Patriots (52nd overall) in 2013, Collins helped the team win Super Bowl XLIX and earned Pro Bowl and second-team All Pro honors in 2015 before being traded to the Cleveland Browns on Halloween in 2016.
Collins subsequently signed a four-year, $50 million contract in January 2017 with the Browns.
After struggling for two seasons in Cleveland, Collins returned to the Patriots following a Browns release for the 2019 season and signed a one year deal where he regained his old form for most of the year.
On his Instagram account Tuesday, Collins thanked the Patriots and shared a slideshow of photo memories from his second stint.
“Thank you @patriots nation for the great times, memories, leadership, work, growth, and most of all opportunity. Couldn’t have done it without y’all. Forever grateful and will always appreciate the time there helping me jumpstart my career since 2013”, Collins wrote.
