“We saw a weak team. The New England Patriots, let’s face it they’re not good anymore.”

Those were the now infamous words spoken by then ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Trent Dilfer on September 29th, 2014 following the Patriots 41-14 loss to the Chiefs.

Of course since that game, the New England Patriots not only ended their 10 year Super Bowl championship drought that same season, but have won two in three years as quarterback Tom Brady continues to defy his age. What has remained of course, is the often over-reactionary “hot takes” from NFL teams early season bad performances, and the Patriots, being the constant winners they are, have seen plenty more in recent seasons.

So that bring us Thursday night, the Patriots once again found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard (42 points allowed by the defense for a Belichick Patriots career high) in another blowout loss to the Chiefs and Dilfer, who likely had many Patriots fans tweet him afterwards, decided to poke fun at his old words, and offered up the request to “say something idiotic again to inspire an epic run.”

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just laugh at yourself, so kudos to Dilfer for being a good sport all these years since, he also publicly owned up to what he said a few months afterwards.
