If you didn’t already know, New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan has had an unusual path to becoming a Super Bowl champion beyond the often times overstated “he played lacrosse in college” fact.

Attending Pennsylvania State University on a lacrosse scholarship over football, and graduating in 2010, Hogan had one year of college sports eligibility remaining due to an ankle injury during his time in Happy Valley. He chose to attend Monmouth University in New Jersey to give one more crack at football.

As the Boston Globes Jim McBride points out in a more detailed piece about Hogans journey, Hogan “finished his one-year college football career with 12 receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns along with 28 tackles and three interceptions.”

Although he wound up undrafted in 2011, Hogan bounced around on the practice squads of the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins before finally catching on with the Buffalo Bills for four seasons, with his breakout coming in 2014 and starting all 16 games in 2015.

Entering free agency in 2016, the Patriots and noted lacrosse supporter head coach Bill Belichick signed Hogan to a three year contract and proved to be an immediate impact on the teams run to the Super Bowl championship.

On Thursday, Hogan reflected back on his journey and the upcoming future in a post to Twitter.
