It’s been a tough preseason for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who has yet to take a snap during an exhibition game thus far as Jimmy Garoppolo continues getting ready to take his place during the first four weeks of 2016.

Brady was seemingly set to get his chance during last Thursday night’s 23-22 win over Chicago, but a pregame accident where the veteran said he “was just trying to get something out of my shoe” ended up ending his night before it ever got started.

“I let out probably a pretty loud word I wouldn’t repeat in front of my kids,” said Brady about the incident.  “I couldn’t believe it; I just went and got checked out.  It was just a silly accident. ”

After getting treatment for his injury the veteran admitted he still wanted to play, but head coach Bill Belichick ultimately made the call to keep him out of action.  Brady said he was disappointed, and it’s been tough not getting an opportunity to play so far over the last two weeks.  The injury he inflicted on himself Thursday derailed what would have been his one shot to play in front of the home crowd until at least October, but Belichick felt that sitting out was the better decision.

“I wanted to go and Coach [Bill Belichick] said it’s probably best, for what I was going to go out and do, if we just take it easy,” said Brady.  “So that’s what I ended up doing. I wish I could have played. I’ve been missing playing and I want to get out there with my teammates. I feel like that’s what my job is and responsibility is to go out there and be with my team, so it was tough not to be out there.”

He had missed the previous two days with an excused absence while he was dealing with what Belichick referred to as a “personal matter”, with Brady just saying he “just had to take care of something” while he was away.  Now that he’s back, he’s just trying to make the most of these final two games before he has to start wrapping his head around the fact that he won’t be out there to begin the regular season.

“I haven’t put much thought into it,” Brady said about what he’ll do over the four weeks during his suspension.  “It’s been busy, obviously with the practices and so forth. We’ve still got a couple important weeks for this training and for this phase of the season.”

“I want to put all my effort and thoughts into this week and next week, try to go out and play in a couple good preseason games, see if I can get some of that game action and then deal with that when it comes.”
