Considering how thin the Patriots are at wide receiver, losing Chris Hogan was another hit to a group that really couldn’t afford to sustain any further losses.

The receiver suffered an apparent shoulder injury during a blocking drill with defensive backs on Sunday, which led to him eventually sitting out the remainder of practice as well as Monday night’s annual season-ticket practice at Gillette Stadium.  But the good news is, it doesn’t seem to be anything too concerning.

According to the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe, Hogan is expected to return after undergoing treatment, which is certainly encouraging.

Prior to his injury Hogan had done a good job of capitalizing on the additional reps in practice with both Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola both out of the line-up, giving him plenty of opportunities to get comfortable in the offense.

Up until the point he got hurt, he was just trying to make the most of each chance he got.

“Any chance you get to be on the field and get an opportunity to catch, run, whatever it is, is important,” Hogan told the Attleboro Sun Chronicle. “Whenever you’re on the field, everything is being evaluated, so you need to make the most of every single opportunity that you get.”

For the most part he’s gotten a good amount of reps with both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo, and the goal for right now is to continue earning the trust of both players so that when the time comes, they’ll each feel confident throwing him the football.

“I’m not even worried about [which quarterback is out there],” Hogan said. “I’m worried about going out there and making sure they know they can count on me to know what I’m doing to get open and catch the ball.”
