Tuesday Daily Rundown 7/5: New England Patriots News and Notes

🕑 Read Time: 3 minutes

Here’s a quick rundown of this morning’s news:

Brady Gets Patriotic – Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had a little fun for the 4th of July, posting a photo of himself on Facebook with two bald eagles on each arm in honor of the nation’s holiday.

The quarterback joked that they weren’t photoshopped, writing, “Haters gonna say it’s photoshopped… Happy 4th of July everyone!”

Brady’s had a lot more fun in social media over the past couple of years, more so than any other time over the duration he’s been on Facebook.  Needless to say, if you haven’t added him yet, you can follow him at facebook.com/TomBrady.

Edelman Was in On the Durant Pitch – While Tom Brady was among some athletes in Boston trying to lure Kevin Durant to the Celtics, Julian Edelman also got in on the action as they tried desperately to recruit him to the area.

The veteran receiver hopped on social media over the weekend to make his case, but Durant ultimately opted to join the Golden State Warriors.

Too bad, as he would have certainly been a nice addition to a Celtics team that would immediately have been better.  Fortunately for Edelman he’s already part of a great team joined by Brady, so New England has at least one team that will hopefully be a contender in 2016.

Amendola talks Patriots Offense – We’ve heard over the years about receivers who are new to the system having to think on their feet and adjust in an offense that evolves essentially weekly, which sometimes can be tough to deal with.

The veteran wideout tried to explain just what his mindset needs to be during any particular play, comparing how they run routes to the equivalent of driving a car in his explanation.

“In our offense, especially at the wideout position, it’s all about feeling. It’s about trying to find open space, using your eyes,” Amendola told ESPN via Mike Reiss. “Other offenses I’ve played in, West Coast offense, all the routes are run on steps. I kind of relate it to driving a car. If you’re out there on the road and you’re following all the signs, you’re putting your blinker on, it’s kind of like the West Coast offense; you follow the route on the page. In our offense, it’s kind of like if you take away all the street signs on the road and you kind of just drive — you yield and stop at an intersection just by what you feel and what you see with your eyes.”

Amendola had a rough start to his career in New England but has been a key addition, and was huge during their 2014 Championship run.  The veteran is recovering from offseason surgery but is reportedly expected to be ready for the 2016 season.

Bennett Releases Children’s App – It’s always great to see a player so involved in doing some great things off the field, and it sounds like Martellus Bennett certainly fits that mold given a lot of the things he’s doing.

Bennett, who is the founder of The Imagination Agency, a multimedia production company, is releasing a product out of the studio called “Hey A.J.” which is a children’s book with an accompanying interactive mobile app. The app lets children read along with different narrators and play a game where they can help A.J. make breakfast.

The tight end told TechCrunch.com that he has “hundreds of characters” in his head, which could hopefully lead to more products.  But for now, the app is available for both IOS and Android.
