NFL fans and the media were in a frenzy Tuesday afternoon following a rather stunning and confusing tweet that came from the leagues official Twitter account.
The original tweet, sent out just after 12:30pm, reported commissioner Roger Goodell had passed away but two more shortly followed confirming the account was hacked by an unknown assailant.
NFL Public Relations manager Brian McCarthy swifty tweeted out damage control to clear the issue.
The @nfl Twitter account was hacked. @nflcommish is alive and well.

According to an ESPN report, McCarthy later said in a statement, “We have engaged law enforcement to look into the matter. We are reviewing and strengthening our cyber-security measures.”
The origin of where the hack came from was tracked down to this account that is currently suspended.

By the end of the afternoon, Goodell himself tried to make light of the situation by trying his best to make a joke of it to his own Twitter account.
Man, you leave the office for 1 day of golf w/ @JimKelly1212 & your own network kills you off. #harsh pic.twitter.com/BvtBVzdYTc
