2015 Patriots Hall of Fame Inductee Willie McGinest To Be Honored Thursday Night

The New England Patriots announced on Tuesday evening they will honor their 2015 Hall of Fame Inductee former linebacker Willie McGinest at halftime during the Thursday night matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

McGinest, drafted fourth overall in the 1994 NFL Draft, played 12 seasons for the Patriots before ending his career with the Cleveland Browns from 2006-2008.

During his tenure with the Patriots, McGinest totaled 78 sacks, third most in franchise history, and owns the postseason record with 16 as he played in four of the seven team Super Bowl appearances, helping lead them to three titles in four years. He also was a two time Pro Bowler in 1995 and 2003.

His most iconic moment as a Patriot, might have been the stuff of Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James at the goal line to preserve a Patriots 38-34 win with 11 seconds left during the 2003 championship season.

In a 2011 NFL.com article by Simon Samano, McGinest described the final play saying, “I was rushing 100 percent of the time, but our game plan was always to disguise. I gave a pre-snap look like I was dropping into coverage, and he audibled. He took the bait, pretty much, and audibled to a run. … He saw a soft edge and thought they could run it, but I was coming off the edge, man, and just blew it up.”

McGinest currently works as an analyst for NFL Network.
