Can MLB just never return? And be replaced with Soccer? I hate both, but if Soccer were as huge here as it is overseas I'd love the energy at a soccer game more than a baseball game

The recent articles that normal human body temp has decreased in the past 100 years is interesting, too.

Also, the fever screening by definition won't do a damned thing to screen out asymptomatic carriers.

And on the flip side, since the fever screening everyone talks about is using IR guns which in turn means it's measuring skin temperature, people are going to falsely read high if it's a particularly hot day or if their face has been in the sun for a while.

    No

We need to unite as a country and send soccer back to the third world where it came from.

I wouldn't say it's a lie, it's just a severe lack of critical thought. There isn't a huge difference between 60-80k and 100k until you add the context, which obviously didn't happen here. It makes perfect sense to me that people who have already decided in their minds that COVID isn't a big deal would just quickly look at those two figures and say "yep case closed it's just the flu".

It's not that they suck that comes into play each year, it's their level of suckage. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the least amount of suckage, the Jete can skip right over that to the 11-20 range. I give 'em a 15 this year, which is pretty decent considering Gaze is their HC.

Excellent question OP. While I am just wild ass guessing, here are some ideas...

    1) We may have seen the final pitcher at-bat in baseball (well, it still happens a couple times a year even in the AL but I mean regularly)

    2) (Already mentioned in this thread but I’ll add it here) Because of the delay in finishing this season, the NBA is widely believed to be pushing back the 2021 season to start in December or so and go until August. I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep that new timeframe. That would take away 2 full months of competing with football.

Idk man. I can't remember what year (2009? 2010?) it was but I watched USA Men's Hockey and I think they got gold or silver and that really got me into the NHL. Same happened with the world cup at around that same time frame, the energy was just amazing. But the US doesn't have enough of a big soccer following for me to get too into the Revs lol

I can't help it if you aren't very bright. The flu season lasts 6 months, October through March. Covid this year is much worse then it ever will be again, because it is a new virus that people haven't been exposed to before. First Covid death in the US was in January, it is now the end of May, so not sure where you get three months from. Even you should be able to do simple math.

The 100,000 is from people who had Covid when they died, not who died from Covid, the actual Covid deaths are much less then 100,000. Over 50% of the deaths nationwide are in nursing homes. New York City sent seniors who tested positive with covid back to the nursing homes where they infected everyone else there. That is why a huge huge portion of the US deaths are in NYC.

Once people have had it, the numbers of occurrences will drop.

Just go hide in your hole, collect your unemployment, and hope that the government will save you.

The flu season is not 12 months. 2 years ago, it is estimated 60,000 people died in 5 to 6 months time. This year, 100,000 people have died in 3 1/2 months time.

So yes Covid is worse but let’s not overstate by how much.

I think Covid deaths are going to be a permanent part of our lives but once a vaccine is developed, it’ll be in the line of 25,000 to 50,000 per year, disproportionately impacting the elderly. Hell, if we had just protected nursing homes, those are very close to the numbers we would have seen this year.

I know it triggers some people to hear this, but yeah..... those numbers are very flu-like.

Look at the bright side, both sports are a cure for insomnia.

I used to eat, sleep and drink baseball and football as a kid, but I dumped MLB a couple of decades ago. I don't miss it at all.

I've never liked soccer and I still don't.

And a bad flu season is more like 60k fatalities in a full year.

In case some don’t understand....COVID19 is extremely dangerous because no human ever had it until patient zero got it somewhere near Wuhan China. There is zero herd immunity and no vaccine or treatment.

You can have 2 people the same age and health condition but they typically don’t react to covid19 equally.

Those statements are just facts with no political ties

Disagreeing is not being “triggered” tiger.

This virus is far more contagious than the flu.

But the big fact you missed is that 60k die in a bad flu year, so we won’t have our covid19 death total until a full year has passed

    We’re at over 100k after 3 months!

Ok let us put it this way. It is never going away. It will always be with us. It will become less dangerous after the first couple waves because we will develop some level of herd immunity, but just like the flu, it will always be with us. The numbers right now, almost everywhere have leveled off and are dropping in everything but number of cases, because we are ramping up our testing abilities, not because more people are catching it. A vaccine may or may not ever come, if it does will it be like the flu shot, which still leaves us with upwards of 60k deaths some years, maybe as many as 90k?

You can't hide in your holes forever, you can't assume there is going to be a cure, this is the new normal, and the CDC now says there is less then 1/2% chance of dying if you get this disease, and way less than that if you are under 50. What is the risk you have to be able to accept to come out and live your life?

They actually count all deaths for a full year. The flu season is typically October to May, but if a thousand die over the summer they’re still counted as flu deaths

    Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

The current best estimate 35% of the people who catch it have no symptoms.

If you are under 50 and catch it, you have a .033% chance of dying from it. So if you catch it and you are under 50 you have a 33 in 100,000 chance of dying.

    50-65 a .13% chance of dying from it, or 13 in 10,000

Do you realize how small those percentages really are?

I think the issue is we don't know how many of those "over 100k" are solely due to the virus and how many are just "you were on your last legs, this virus just kinda kicked you over the edge"

I don’t hide and we weren’t discussing how people react to it. We were just comparing the flu to covid19
