It's easy, and only takes a few moments. But the Matt Cassel led Patriots went 11-5 against a cupcake schedule with an offense that went 16-0 the previous season and featured the second greatest wide receiver in history and one of the best slot receivers in history so I'm sure Stidham could go 14-2 against the league's hardest schedule throwing to Julian Edelman's slowly rotting body and Los Angeles Wildcats great Nelson Spruce
I mean even the "give Stidham a shot" guys will tell you it's only because they think next year's a lost cause
What if Kiam fires Berry, but lets Flutie be released and go to Canada where he is hugely successful season after season winning MVP's and titles and setting passing and rushing records that will never be broken, and meanwhile the Patriots flop as Hodson or Wilson or Millen or whatever other QB throws pick after pick and the team has a full blown meltdown and Pats finish 1-15, 6-10 and 2-14. What repercussions does that have to our beloved logo and uniforms; Who will Orthwein hire as head coach and who will we draft with the #1 pick? Will we then see Kraft put up the big bucks to send J. Busch O. back to St. Louis, keep the team here, split the the fan base in two with posers embracing the ugly fake gross helmets and uni's in that scenario in a misguided effort to avoid any other obvious denigration and contempt from the league and opponents, which instead will backfire culminating in the greatest injustice against a pro team in history? Thoughts? What if Brady goes elsewhere, has a hugely successful season and meanwhile Patriots’ season flops as Stidham or whatever other QB throws pick after pick and has a full blown meltdown and Pats finish 4-12 or something or worse. What repercussions does that have to BB’s job, if any, as both a GM and HC? Will we then see Kraft split the GM and HC roles in that scenario to avoid any other obvious GM blunders. Thoughts?
Interesting premise. But I honestly feel Stidham is a better QB than Cassel, when Cassel was forced to go in for Brady, and the Matt Cassel led Patriots went 11-5. Belichick is the greatest coach of all time. If it's Stidham and new weapons, he can win. Not bad mouthing Brady, but he seems to zero in on Edelman constantly, maybe a different QB doesn't do that.
I was in the camp of Brady leaving, but the closer we get to free agency, the more I think he comes back. But I don't think Brady goes anywhere
I think Cassel would have had more success with more experience in a Patriots offensive system...but nothing remotely close to the GOAT.
ANYONE that puts their foot down now and declares Stidham will fail or succeed is an IDIOT...he's had 4 passing attempts in his entire NFL career. 4. FOUR. Stop looking like idiots and lets wait and see what he can do at least.
It’s way too early. Once we get closer to FA, the smoke will turn into fire on whether he stays or goes.I was in the camp of Brady leaving, but the closer we get to free agency, the more I think he comes back.
I don't think anyone's suggesting they know how Stidham will turn out .
Cassel spent four years with the Patriots. He was what he was.
Actually their is plenty of people on both sides making such statements in other threads.
I think people assume that, based on history, the chance is quite low that a first-time starter who was a mid-round pick elevates a moribund offense. Other than Brady himself and Russell Wilson, how many other quarterbacks would that describe?
I hate these "what if" posts.
Yeah, my first thought is you need a new thread title. Something like: "What if Brady succeeds elsewhere and the Patriots have a bad season?" It's not hard to prevent yourself from looking like a lazy dope.Thoughts?

Very good. My view is one season with those conditions won't matter because the Patriots still would need to rebuild offensively in Brady's absence whether he's gone in 2020 or 2021. Part of it also depends on where Brady has his "success" and whether that might have been deemed transferable to the Patriots as currently constructed. That would be highly questionable, perhaps comparing apples to oranges. As for BB's status, one aberrant season isn't changing things. Personally, I don't think Brady will set the world afire wherever he plays this year.Done. Now what's your view?
