21-17 loss to FBS opponent Kansas State, with 14 of the 17 coming in the second half. Big case of the dropsies, and were it not for a last-minute TD in the first half, UMass could have walked out of this one at an impressive 1-0. Still, the defense looked top-notch and Tony Nelson looked like every other UMass back in recent memory - quite good.

Too bad this will be buried under BC vs. Northeastern...

The team a contender for the 1AA title again?

Still too early to say. The defense is young and inexperienced but played over their heads. Definitely looks like an improvement over last year's team. The offense is a question. Cruz and Horne are back at WR and should be pretty solid (though they weren't last night), and Nelson is a beast. It's all in how Kyle Havens steps up. His stats in his first career D-I game weren't impressive, but as stated earlier, the drops didn't help. Let's see how we fare against FCS opponents first, but there's definitely reason for hope!
