I agree that the Departed is watchable but just OK. Nicholson mailed the role in, too many storylines were compressed together, and Scorsese (my favorite director) used too heavy of a hand directing this (and that rat at the end... come on, give us a break with the forced symbolism).

I mean, it was good, but I expected transcedent, so the result felt very disappointing.

That's interesting. On an episode of Inside the Actor's Studio where Matt Damon was the guest, he talked about how good it was to work with a director like Scorsese that gave the actors more freedom to explore the characters, and how Nicholson in particular was a little over the top in creating extra stuff, some of which made it and some of which was cut.

Like the scene toward the beginning where Jack and his buddy French are shooting the 2 people out in the "maaaash"...it was supposed to be just "bang. bang. cut." but Jack added the "hey...she fell funny" line, and also added (which was cut...) "you know, I think I'd like to eff her again"...that's the line that led to French responding with "You know, you should see someone" that was left in.

I also thought the departed was over rated.

A Civil Action was a great book but an awful movie.

If you want to expand it to Massachusetts The Accused and The Perfect Storm, although the book was better, were both good movies.

    1. The Departed
    2. Mystic River
    3. Boondock Saints
    4. Good Will Hunting
    5. Gone Baby Gone

Casey Affleck was a horrible choice for the lead of Gone Baby Gone, but the movie was good nonetheless. Makes you wonder what the movie could have done with a real leading man.

Hey, even mailing it in Jack is better than 99.9% of Hollywood actors!

I thought he was great in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

    1.Mystic River...a classic

2.The Departed ...overated I watched it three times and was dissapointed Scorsase should have won best director for either Taxi Driver or Goodfellas

3.Good will hunting...good movie Matt Damons charecter was a little over the top to be believable. People that smart a near savant (in this case Physics) usually are limited to being gifted in one area. After watching GWH Damons charecter should have run for MR. Wizard.

4.A Civil Action......good film./ Being based on a true story made it better.

5.Friends of Eddie Coyal..again a good movie, I don't remember much about it.

I can't speak about "Gone baby gone" I didn't see it.

OBVIOUSLY JUST MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION. ;)

Boondock Saints should be number one on all of those lists.

Are you kidding me? Jimmy Fallon delivered a powerhouse performance in that movie. Worthy of being considered one of the two best movies ever made in the world (not just Boston).

    Cannonball Run 2

just as exciting as Cannonball Run 1, But with more in-depth character development, digital filming technology, and state of the art cinematography manifold schematics.
