Tom Brady says he's done "for good"

That's interesting. So at the very, very end he gave himself an out should something unexpected materialize. He decided to retire pending contingencies that were not to be.

Knowing it was prerecorded robs some of the poignancy. I liked the idea he woke up with an epiphany and ran with it.
I wonder if he made the decision before or after that Jim Gray-scripted podcast

In the Starting Line-Up
I’m sad, but we all knew this day was coming.

He got lots of things going on in his life. His brand is becoming main stream, him having a successful podcast, and now an ironclad contract for fox…the guy will have a lot of projects now that he is retired and we will see a lot him in the next few years.

We all know Brady is the ultimate competitor. Perhaps he felt he was doing a “bad” job as a dad now that Gisele left and didn’t want to be the crappy parent, especially since Gisele is ultimately worth more too. That will probably change over time though as Tom keeps raking in contracts from Fox or other networks. But I could see him choosing to retire and be a better parent to his kids.

Rotational Player and Threatening Starter's Job
Serious question - if Tom is going to unofficially "mentor" a QB, or even show up to a TC practice as an invited guest, is it going to be in TAM or at Gillette? To me, it's no contest. I could see Tom selling his Tampa house, and never engaging in that community again. But, Tom will get the McGinest treatment - and I wouldn't be surprised to see him stop in even this summer.

BTW it was Giselle who REALLY hated living around Boston. Brady wasn’t in love with this place, he’s a warm weather guy and he didn’t like how he couldn’t just disappear into any crowd like he could while being in New York, but he was basically fine with it overall. But Giselle hated it so goddamn much. Christopher Gasper, who would know, once told me when I briefly talked to him one time about Brady’s future. So yeah factor that into your feelings.

That is a very interesting take.

I don't think he's retiring because he needs to compete with Gis but IMO the divorce/kid situation, his age/commitment required and lack of Grade A opportunities for the right $ with other clubs were the deciding factors.

I think if Miami panned out he wouldn't have retired.

On the Game Day Roster
I’ve had season tickets for 34 years so I‘ve seen it all. To be able to see Tom play his whole career up close was incredible. No matter who we were playing and who was injured, during tailgating the feeling was well Tom will get it done, we have Brady so no worries.

I remember the first game tailgating when Brady left, it didn’t feel the same out in the parking lot.

One of the loudest games I was at was the game against the Bengals the week after we got blown out by the Chiefs in Kanas City in 2014 and all week the national media and a lot of the local media were stating it was over for Brady, he’s old and should be benched. Well the Bengals didn’t stand a chance and it sounded and felt like all 62k fans were chanting Brady.

Thanks Tom.

Brady is not going to ever coach because like most great athletes in any sport I’m sure he’ll be terrible at it. It’s not a skill that translates when you are so good because it’s hard to relate to someone who just can’t do what you did so naturally.
