There is nothing in this article that isn't true. I agree Borges is often irrational and has an axe to grind, but to believe this article is just hyperbole is burying your head in the sand. The Patriots defense was putrid for most of the game against the Ravens, failed to generate ANY pressure on Flacco, got run all over, and had several complete breakdowns, including the TD that put Baltimore up 28-14. They let the Ravens slice through them like a hot knife through butter on the first two offensive drives. In fact, the first drive was truly one of their worst efforts I can remember; they looked completely confused and helpless.
That is not the type of performance I expected from the new "revamped" defense either, and if it weren't for Brady's heroics, most on here would be singing a different tune. Borges is also correct that both of Flacco's interceptions were his own mental gaffes; it's not like either throw was forced.
Let's face it; people overreact based on an outcome (w/l) which is often decided by a few inches and a play or two. Had the Patriots lost, they'd be calling for Patricia's head, completely throwing the defense under the bus and saying it's time to completely rebuild that unit; whereas now that they won the game, all is rosy in Patriots nation.
I hope they can fix these major defensive problems or it's going to be another failed quest. Sorry to be the voice of reality here, but let's be honest with ourselves.
