Everyone knows a police officer will defend other officers when the officer has committed a wrong. It is not worth my time debating.

Tampa is just a couple of filled holes away from being a very, Very well-balanced team...
If Rosen is indeed traded here, it will almost assuredly be with 2021 in mind...

Seems like a massive generalization. You wouldn't claim the actions of a few are indicative of the behavior of an entire group, would you? That seems fairly ignorant.

Also, let me translate your "It is not worth my time debating" comment. In real world speak that translates to the following, "I have some preconceived notions about how the world is, but unfortunately the actual statistics do not support my philosophical leaning. So I am going to shut down this debate instead of being forced to face the reality that everything I want to believe in is a complete farce".

Don't you worry...you have a great deal of company in your denial of reality.

Haven't seen a thread on this, so not sure if these are being shut down. But it's garnering 24-hour live coverage, so it seems an apt topic for the pub.

I didn't view the death of Floyd as a racism issue (facts still to be determined of course), but rather a corrupt policing issue. Reports saying the officers had over a dozen complaints each, and have never been disciplined. When you have police officers abusing their powers with impunity and to that degree, can you blame a populace for burning down a police station? Call me a bad conservative, but I sympathized with the rioters when they did that. The rest of the rioting is shameful (small businesses losing everything is not excusable).

Burning businesses is a shameful act in a vacuum. But these riots are about more than a racist act or even police brutality.

The government and corporations, especially during the pandemic, have made it clear that average American lives don't matter. The response to this lack of empathy is a rage in the populace that wants to see everything burn because "what does it matter?" A moment of police brutality gave a spark - but it could have been anything.

Calm leadership -- much like a Bill Belichick most days as a coach -- would help to ease this anger. Instead, we have leaders who advocate violence and retaliate against political enemies. America is burning because it was dousing itself with gasoline for the past decade.

It isn't a protest in Minneapolis any longer. It's quickly turning into an insurrection. People will try to politicize it but this is really a perfect storm of the pandemic, unemployment, boredom, and racial tension.

Minneapolis leadership has been faced with a really difficult task but two straight nights they've admitted they underestimated the number of rioters. I think they need the military to come in and as someone who has flirted with libertarianism in the past, I don't say that easily.

Let this continue on and it will devolve into something worse than rioting. You know there are opportunists excited for the opportunity to fight. And here it is. Time to get the military in and put an end to this insanity.

This is not about Floyd. This isn't even about police brutality any more. It's about anarchy and the Minnesota authorities need to establish order or pass on that task to the powers that can.

    Too far.

Unfortunately, a bunch of innocents suffered because of these egregious thugs indiscriminately rioting.

I was management for most of my life and opposed unions. Currently, I am union and thankful because I might be jobless without the union. The police protecting (lying) regarding their own is a cultural thing. The police want all of society to communicate (snitch) on others but they refuse to do the same.

Not really. At least one place of business was torched to the ground. It was owned by a black man.

You are looking at the end result, and finding blame in that. Look at the root of what's happening, not at the result. That's where the answer is found.

Minnesota is claiming 80% of the bad apples are not locals.

My question is how much of the 80% are connected to each other to achieve a goal of there choosing.

Are their Eiden or Trump supporters who see political benefit if the riots rage on?

If they're anarchist societies involved what is their realistic end game?

How many are small town midwestern goobers looking for a little action on a Friday night?

That's the tact you want to take? That my argument that the murder of Mr Floyd is semantics and not the cause of all the civil unrest currently on going? yeah... that ship sailed on your argument after the Watts Riots in 1965.

Face the facts. Its out there for all to see.

I think both of us generally agree politically, but this was clearly a race issue. No need for a cop to put his knee on anyone's neck to cut off another person's breathing. Even worse were the other cops just standing around.

One of the dynamics is that right wing organizations send people into protests to start and provoke violence. Here in DC, the progressive organizations even know some of "the regulars" by face, and have people look out for them. One of them showed up at Lafayette Park yesterday and was peacefully but firmly walled out of the action, and eventually gave up.

I'm sure that dynamic exists in every major city by now.

The other part that's not being covered is that there are literally over a thousand volunteers in Minneapolis who are cleaning up and repairing the city ever morning after. I corresponded by email with someone from there today who said that there are parts of the city that have never been so clean.

It would be much more interesting and useful to have a thread on the protests.
