Rather than create multiple threads discussing this topic, please post all related articles, comments, etc. here going forward. I understand this will obviously be a topic of discussion for the foreseeable future (I don't see this going away in terms of not holding relative importance from a news standpoint and obviously understand people's opinions on the matter) so rather than have us keep locking threads, we'll use this one.

    Speaking of locking threads...

The reason that's happened is because the mods are stepping in - and rightfully so - when the thread spirals out of control due to politics getting in the way. Going forward, let's try and have a rational discussion in these threads without throwing politics and insults into the mix. If not, we'll begin removing any of you who can't adhere to that policy. If someone makes a nasty comment toward you, report it but don't respond. If you "defend yourself" against the user by responding with your own nasty comment (and as a result, escalate it further), you'll also be removed. The mods have full support on this, so please keep that in mind moving forward.

This really shouldn't be that hard and I'm just asking your cooperation so we can try and keep the focus at least at 95% of football. This team is 2-1 and coming off one of the most exciting win of the season. It's O.K. to post some thoughts on the state of things after what happened yesterday during pregame, but I'd like to try and keep things a little more civil in here and focus on what happened after. I understand there needs to be a place for these talks to take place, so this is the thread for it.

Needless to say, I appreciate those of you who help me out with this.

Patriots Football Fan Site...remember where we started? Who in blazes ever even thought of blabbing it up about Clinton and politics when we all started out on the net? This board was a REFUGE from the day to day insanity we all have to deal with in our lives. What I find galling is that politics has now been superglued to the fabric of NFL football going forward and we're stuck with all these ADHD riddled ,near ten year old mentality athletes assuming THEY possess the moral authority to talk down to the very people that make THEIR extravagant lifestyles possible.
Hate the Jets...hate the commissioner...hate the other weasel owners...hate the media...REMAIN UNITED as Patriot fans. Keep politics on a different page, or site or whatever...anywhere but the edenic construct we use to escape the mundane day to day , joyless grind.

Should not be hard to stay on topic but some cannot help themselves and let their emotions take hold of their opinions and they stray.

This is not going to go away. It's only going to get worse. A lot people encouraging this are not, and will never be football fans. They inject the cancer and move on. As ratings and revenue drops, contract clauses have to eventually make teams get close to where they will have to address it. If they all of a sudden turn face to save ratings and revenue, that will cause even more divide.

Also, the more and more people that tune out...the easier it will be for a new league to spring up. Return of the XFL perhaps?

I don't expect it to go away. I'm just trying to prevent it from taking over the entire forum, as well as cut down on the nasty exchanges that result when things escalate. And I expect it to get worse before it gets better

Used to be so nice after a long hard work week followed by house chores on Saturday to relax with football, food and drink on a Sunday.
The injection of politics absolutely takes some of the enjoyment away. Hopefully it will pass but I doubt it.
I will still watch the games but I will avoid the talking head conversations as much as possible.
I think I'll skip the anthem - at my kids high school soccer games nobody is taking a knee thank God.

It's tough, and when you have multiple threads similar in nature all breaking the 100+ post mark, it's hard for myself and the mods to monitor them all and every one of them spirals out into a big mess. Obviously it's an issue that warrants discussion, but for now we'll keep it to one thread and hopefully people can refrain from a lot of the nasty exchanges that have gone on as a result. Otherwise, we'll have to start removing people from the thread.

When is anyone surprised? For years american people have treated real politics like sporting events, well yesterday free market delivered, now we have real sports mixed with politics, just like how people wanted.

What if they were? Would that ruin your enjoyment of your child's athletic activity? If so, why?

Yes it would ruin my enjoyment because I feel they are hijacking a sporting event for their own selfish whims.
If I want to see a protest then I'll go see one and I would even enjoy the experience if it was their planned event.

Because I believe Kaepernick started this to save face after he got butt-hurt over after dividing the team, and losing his starting job. When he got called out on it, he made up the first thing he could think of to deflect his own failures.

Read up on what happened with him and Aldon Smith.

Somebody mentioned declining revenues. It's ironic, but this has to have goosed ratings, at least temporarily. Who knows the relative cost/benefit of an ongoing "NFL vs. POTUS" storyline.

    Interesting times.

Except it didn't and advertisers pay according to ratings ... they have already lost $200+ million.

@AvocadoIceCream -- can you teach me your gift on how to telepathically read people's minds that you have never met?

As a single guy that skill would sure come in handy....

Except that they would be simply taking a knee quietly. If you have a problem with that and it ruins your enjoyment of a sporting event, it's your fault and no one else's.

You're going down the wrong road here - you may be the first banned from the thread.
The NFL and anthem are the topic not the members.
