Tazawa promoted to AAA Pawtucket

The way that the back end of the rotation is pitching, I'd rather seem him sooner than later.

I know he needs innings and hopefully in Sept. that we'll see what he potentially could look like at the ML level.

His peripherals are much worse than Bowden. He won't hit the majors this year. He's about 5th in line behind Bowden, Masterson, etc, to be the last starter.

Don't be so sure. When rosters expand he could be called up to be a long relief guy if he doesn't struggle in AAA.

He's too good to screw around with by throwing him to the wolves this year. They bring him up soon and he bombs his psyche will be shot to heck and he might not recover for a while...if they wait until September where they will really need the help it should be OK for him. Next year he may well compete for a starter job but he has too much to lose this year to rush him.

I'm not sure they are committed to Bowden, he may get some spot starts but I'm of the belief that they are more likely to go with their ace in the hole from Spring Training- Masterson.

Masterson currently has two pitches; balls and home runs.

Masterson would be better utilized as trade bait.
At best ... he's possibly a #4 for a good team and a #3 for a bad team.
Well ... anyone can change but in his case ... trade him now if the right deal is there.

Six starts each for him and Smoltz-

Masterson: 38 hits, 3 home runs, 13 walks in 35 and 1/3rd innings pitched, era of 4.58 with a 2-2 record

Smoltz: 42 hits, 4 home runs, 5 walks in 30 innings pitched, an era of 7.04 with a 1-4 record.

Sure looks like he's throwing balls and home runs when he starts

They trade him now they get crap for him. He has to start again and win before they can get any value for him. And then again why the hell would they trade him away in the first place? They are having a problem with depth in the rotation- no way in hell they are going to trade away a young pitcher who may very well get stuck pitching for the month of August for them.

Guess you missed his last few relief appearances there chief, especially that abortion vs the Orioles in Baltimore where he single handedly allowed that pack of stiffs back into the game.

The Taunton Little League could beat the Orioles.

He's a starter, not a reliever. They screwed up putting him out there when he should have been down in the minors pitching alongside Bucholz.

He's a reliever and everyone ranted and raved that he should be the bridge to Papelbon.

He was a fill in starter.

So you're wrong.

He converted to starter middle of last season to fill in because they had nobody else to fill in. He came into spring training as a starter and got stuck doing bullpen work because of the glut of pitching. That has not worked out for him, he is doing better as a starter than as a reliever. Now that they need a starter and he's there on the roster, he's not going to be converted back to a starter? Right OK whatever you say....Keep up believing that he's a reliever when his stats are showing otherwise

Red Sox prospect Junichi Tazawa produced an impressive line score in his Triple-A debut. The right-hander allowed just two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings while walking none and striking out three in Buffalo against the Mets' Triple-A affiliate. He threw 70 pitches and 47 strikes. He left the game trailing, 2-1.

The only thing his stats are showing me is that he sucks.

Can he close, because enough already with this effin high wire act every night by Papelbon.

He changed up his motion/delivery to cut down on the wear and tear on his shoulder.

Which has resulted in him sucking.

A three run blown save to the AA A's.

Terrific.
