When Cora is asked about the recent lack of spin rate by Saux pitchers and the staff's utter collapse over the past week that by sheer luck (LOL) coincides with the SI article, he quickly states Chaim Bloom, a spin rate disciple, is the Saux brass who communicates with pitchers about MLB's sticky substance crack down.....not the manager.
Again, the Saux GM talks to the team's pitchers, not the Saux manager.

Clearly, management is shielding Cora from scrutiny based on his past indiscretions, similar to how BB distanced himself from Deflate Gate very quickly knowing the NFL's limited patience when it comes to Bill.

there have been players trying to gain an advantage forever in baseball. Back in my college days I used sunblock to get a grip on the ball. Sign stealing and tacky substances are common place by every team and i don't consider them a big deal. Let's see, due to analytics, from the time batters start out at the lowest level of minor league baseball, they are taught to swing for the fences every at bat because singles are worthless.

After years of this type of coaching the result is that we see far more strike outs, lower batting averages, but about the same number of runs being scored (if not more). In the last full season to be played (2019), there were an average of 9.66 runs scored per game. That is the seventh most over the last seventy years, with only 2000 (10.28), 1999 (10.17), 1996 (10.07), 1994 (9.85), 2006 (9.72), 1950 (9.70) and 1995 (9.69) finishing higher. Now figure in that balls tend to travel further in the warm weather and we are only in mid-June, and we could see a top-five ranking by the end of the season.

Now the spin (pun intended) is that the lower batting averages and more strikeouts have nothing to do with the strategy of swinging for a home run, and is strictly about what pitchers are doing? If so, then how does one explain that the all-time record for single-season slugging average is .437, set just last season. The record before that was .435, set in 2019.


Pitchers may indeed be doctoring baseballs, but I am skeptical about that being the primary reason for a decline in batting averages. If that was so then runs scored and slugging percentages should be down as well. How often do you see a batter even attempt to put the ball through a wide open gap to the opposite field for an easy base hit when the opposition puts a defensive shift on him?
