Should NBC fire or suspend Tony Dungy for his Michael Sam comment?

    That's a reach Boogs.

anyone in dungy's place can simply say my religious beliefs are my own and have nothing to do with the coaching and management of my team. That is what anti-discrimination policies are. Takes courage ... Dungy thought he had it ... now he realizes he just thought he did.

Icy....give it a rest. You have YOUR opinion and others have theirs....why be angry that others don't agree with you?

Just be comfortable with your opinion. Among all the topics in this forum, this one is WAY down the list of importance.

It's not even an equality issue Icy. It's a media issue, job security issue and coaching issue for Tony Dungy. Dungy believes Sam deserves a chance. Dungy is just not the right coach for Michael Sam and this blown up situation. But you are ignoring that.

It's not a reach at all. Deep down you probably know I'm right in my statement.

You don't see the difference in the NFL draft and a private business??... first of all Sam is not specifically applying for a job to Dungy, he went to the combine as a football player who happened to be gay.

A private business has no business determining job eligibility dependent on sexual orientation..

Dungy does not have dog in this fight, reminds me of asking Phil Robertson his opinion on gay marriage, his response was expected.. I expect the same of Dungy who is well known for his conservative views.

No big deal, but it will be made into one... it speaks more of Dungy's ability/inability to control the locker room than anything else.. sooner or later more and more NFL guys will be coming out, they are there already. Speaks more about Jeff Fisher who did not allow this to be a sideshow....

    I agree with that.

But, I think this is an implication on Dungy's weakness because he can't control his lockerroom and the media. We know Manning ran the show in Indy not Dungy.

I am not ignoring the lack of courage of Dungy ... you are.

Courage by the strong has helped to route out personal discrimination.

You are confusing state discrimination with personal discrimination.

Dungy has made a career and enhanced himself by being against discrimination ... up to now.

But, Boogs, it's no different than the first coaches and managers who chose to employ black players. For many, back then, integration was a moral issue. In fact, many conservative religious leaders cited Bible passages to oppose mixing of the races. It takes courage to stand up for equality. That Dungy lacks that courage speaks volumes about him. What he said lacks even the integrity of the Christian who opposes gays.

Dungy is a hypocrite. Perhaps if he paid more attention to his family he could have seen the signs with his deceased son.

    Funny stuff here.

There are a few things about M Sam, looking at his combine numbers he is a marginal player. Then he was setting up a reality tv show prior to the draft and marketing his attempts to make the NFL. So M Sam positioned himself to be a distraction.

Who needs the circus for a player who looks to be a marginal player.

If Dungy were white, he'd have been canned already. Same as Chris Broussard on ESPN. Do I think he should be? That's up to his employers. We all know he'd be out of a job if he worked at Modzilla.

Icy, I don't get the comparison either. I think his admiration for Vick is that he turned over a new leaf. That has little to do with homosexuality, and his view of that lifestyle.

If Dungy hadn't made previous views with respect to homosexuality, I'd take his words with some merit. The fact that Sam will be a distraction (Tebow anyone?) isn't anything many haven't previously discussed. The problem when Dungy says it, is that he's already voiced his dislike for the homosexual lifestyle, based on his religious views.

I agree with some of that. Dungy probably got out of the way and let Manning run the offensive show. (Edit: And I cannot stand Peyton.) I wouldn't say Dungy is weak. I would say Dungy probably did have a good influence in the locker room. I don't think they had too many locker room issues that got out of control due to his leadership.

If I owned or coached a team, I would not have chosen Sam either for the sole reason of the circus that will ensue. The other players and more importantly, the fans don't need a media circus following around an average player at best.

When I was a teenager I loved playing football with girls, I used to let them tackle me, the pile ups were great, most of them are all dead now, the ones that are left are in Nursing Homes.

He publicly supported Jason Collins ...

Well of course he did ... that did not take courage.

Being the temporary coach of Mike Sam does take huge courage.
