Ryan Allen-Alive and Kicking?

He was cut with an injury settlement, so it's very possible that he's either still healing up or stuck waiting until after week 1.

Source? I don't see anything on Twitter or Google (incl. @Miguel) suggesting he got an injury settlement or was injured at the time.

Believe it or not half the teams out there are paying their punters less than a million. It's easy for us as Pats fans to forget but there are more Mike Brown types owning teams than there are guys like Robert Kraft

Those punters are all on rookie deals. AFAIK every punter not on a rookie deal is getting over $1M this year.

Dolphins have released cornerback Torry Mctyer and reached an injury settlement with Dwayne Allen, per source.

Why are we surprised? When he was a free agent, it isn’t like teams were lining up to sign him.

To be fair he was released at the worst time especially for a punter. What exactly is the incentive for anyone to dump their punter and sign someone else ?

Until one gets injured or starts pissing down his pants to the point of being replaced I don't think there will be many opportunities for Ryan.

Now if he was released at the start of FA things might be totally different.

It’s good to know he’s still available in the event our new punter pisses his own pants.

“Hey Ryan, we were just kidding!”

Where the heck have you been the past 25 years? This is the NFL in 2019, where winning on the field is secondary to what really matter$. It's only a sport to the fans, to everyone else it's a busine$$.
Some non football loving stars likely look at free agent destinations and know they can max out their incomes and avoid up to 4 extra games/year at the same time.

Phoenix is nice in the winter
Detroit not so much but rent is cheap.
Miami has possibilities if you can avoid getting traded
A dollar bill goes a long way at Tampa strip clubs

This is the moment I hijack the thread and totally move in a different direction...

On Ryan, always thought he did a pretty good job, and performed well with his assignments (don’t out kick the coverage, etc.) but if they have found someone better so be it.

Thinking of punters made me wonder about special teams in general. New punter, new holder for field goals, maybe a new punt returner (Gunner). Quite a bit of change, should be interesting to watch.

It's not like they're saving money and pocketing the savings. All teams have to spend to the cap in the aggregate.

Actually they only have to spend to the cap floor not the ceiling. Ask a Bengals fan about Mike Brown's spending sometime.

His #s were prety bad last year.

Until the super bowl :)

Isn't that also why the Colts gave Jacoby the new contract as well as Hoyer's? IIRC, they were below the 89% threshold minimum to the cap.

Apparently he’s now a Falcon.
