Interesting. You going to cut Ben Watson, Dave Thomas and Kyle Brady?

oops my bad all fixed

One other thing (yeah, a nitpick, but I wasn't sure)--if Jackson starts the season on PUP, then that opens up one more roster spot. (They will not IR him now unless they see essentially no chance of his contributing this season.)

No way both Caldwell and Gaffney makes it.. I think Washington will be on the team, and Im going to say Caldwell is cut or traded by training camp..

As much as I want to believe it, do not see Samuel wearing the uniform on opening day.. the sides have become too polarized, but hope am wrong.

Was I the only one who looked at: Matt Guiterrez (Vinny Testaverde)
and thought does vinny have a Mike vick alias? Ron Mexico(Mike Vick)

PFW has reported that Washington has had trouble holding onto the ball. You could insert Caldwell AFCG reference here, but I think that, if they had to pick WRs right now, Washington hasn't shown enough to stick around.

Of course, they don't have to pick them right now. :)

I'm curious to see how Woods does: it seems like he's getting some time at OLB, and he's a monster special teamer. Whom would he replace?

good job on a tough list: it'll be interesting to see any changes made by the first week of August.

Pretty good job. I think we go into the season with only two QBs on the roster, with Gutierrez being paid full salary on Practice Squad and Vinny on speed dial. That gives us a spot for Troy Brown, Pierre Woods, Mel Mitchell, Rashad Baker or Rashad Moore. I also think that someone from this list is more likely to make it than Gaffney/Washington, whom I think are both on the hit list.

I think Clint Oldenburg will make the team and we trade/release another OL (Kaczur?).

Note: My only basis for this prediction is that I think Clint Oldenburg is a great name for an Offensive Lineman! :)

I think if minicamp is any indications, there is no way both Caldwell and Gaffney don't make it. It is clear that they are far ahead of all the other WRs in terms of knowledge of the plays and continuity with Brady. They will be crucial for our early season success as other WRs get up to speed.

As someone else pointed out, Washington really struggled in minicamp. In most cases, you really can't read too much into players who do really well in minicamp, but more often than not receivers who struggle to hold onto the ball in minicamp have the same problems in training camp and preseason. I looked at Washington as this year's David Terrell or Jonathan Sullivan - guys that the Pats had some interest in before they were drafted and are now taking them on as reclaimation projects. So far, these projects have failed and I think it will with Washington too. I think he had a better shot before we traded for Moss, but Washington doesn't bring a lot different than what Moss brings.

I think Pierre Woods might make it at LB over Lua who might end up on the prectice squad. If Mills shows something in camp, we may cut Evans. Also, don't be surprised if Patrick Pass makes it back on the roster if he can prove he is healthy.

I like your list but I would substitute Woods over Lua. BB has said the biggest jump you see in player development is in the 2nd year so I'm counting on Woods to really pick it up this year. I also think that Gafney has a problem because BB has said, If You Arn't Starting, You Better Find a Way to Contribute. Gaffney and Caldwell is one too many non ST non-starters.

oops my bad all fixed

the troy brown issue has to be addressed.
find it hard to believe that BB/SP, cold-hearted as they are would say what they've said about TB and then cut him in august.

a number of players appear to me to be trade bait (for draft choices). don't think they'll just be summarily cut. there's too much value there.
suspect some young players, like alexander, mruczkowski, chad jackson, the gargantuan wesley britt, even cassel, may go to other teams for 3rd and 4th round picks in '08, '09, even '10.
there's too much talent there to simply let these players go.
IMHO BB/SP place high value on their draft picks, as opposed to the known quantities who are practice squad/PUP/IR players.

You have used only 52 spots. The 6th WR on PUP doesn't count.

OFFENSE
I don't think that we will have 3 QB and Mills to start the season. One of these spots needs to fo to the OL.

DEFENSE
When we finally have it: a defenseive squad of 11 defensive backs. I guess we don't need anyone else.

The DL needs another player. I don't think we've ever started with only six DL's. I certainly don't that we should start now. Smith is still the favorite, but Moore could surprise.

You are one light on LB's. I would ahve both Woods and Mays ahead of Lua. The two are excellent special teamers. Lua could beat out Alexander. We also could bring in a free agent.

We carried four corners last year. That's all we need, given that most of our safeties can play corner.

I think it is overly optomistic to imagine that other teams will offer us

mid round draft picks for our castoffs. The Pats will be lucky to get

one #6 or #7 draft pick for 2008.

It depends on the ability of the castoff and the desperation of the team (e.g., the Titans WR corps[e]).

But, as I've said before, there are two players who could very well be moved for high-level picks next year (not that they will, or should, but they could):

* Mike Wright, who'll be an RFA
* Matt Cassel (especially if he gets lots of pseudo-garbage time snaps)
