I’m going to see it tonight at 6:00. I never realized that movies release a day early. Discuss the movie here

I won’t be seeing it in theaters. Just not feeling this trilogy as a whole. I’d rather save the coin and watch it from my house. I’ve added some other thoughts about it in the “off-season” thread.

Somewhere some star wars fanboy is saying the same thing about the NFL.

It can't be that people like different things, though. The people like the thing you don't like are sheep.

I haven’t been a big fan of this one either. Bringing palp back feels like damage control. I’m actually a big prequal fan tbh

Dork vs. Dyke Death Match (a/k/a Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). Whoever is going, keep a tally of Rey's kills and report back. After 42 years I'm sitting this one out in protest against bad casting, bad storylines and bad scripts wrecking the last five installments. I see the RT rating has slipped a bit to 57 percent -- a pretty sure bet it won't be certified fresh.

It was the best of the new trilogy, but that doesn't mean it was good. Same problems of the other two: weak characters, not a great story and bad acting .
For the sequel of the classic trilogy, we deserved better as fans.
    The mandalorian is way better

Tried to do too much which means rushing through scenes that could have been iconic.

A lot of exposition. Some serious Deus Ex machina type BS.

Still I mostly enjoyed it, certainly more than TLJ. Mostly because I decided to leave my critical side at the door and let my inner 12 year old enjoy it. It's not The Mandalorian or ANH/ESB but it's almost as good as ROTJ and better than any of the prequels and much better than TLJ. Unsure if I like it more than TFA yet.

The main bad ruled and had a badass look. One of the main storylines was pretty satisfying. I had very low expectations and they were slightly exceeded. Don't regret going will probably go see it again next week. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan.

    My major gripes w/ spoilers:
So wtf this movie just completely undid everything about Anakin/Vader by not having him show up as a force ghost and help turn Ben to the light. If Palps can show up again and be ultra badass (which I loved and wish had gone on for 10-15 more minutes) what did Anakin accomplish exactly?

The fleets out of nowhere **** was stupid. Palps doesn't need a fleet to own and there's no explanation as to how he got it and did he just force create planet killer cannons or something wtf? And what the hell is up with Lando showing up with a thousand ships? One of the few cool bits about TLJ was nobody showing up to help adding to the feeling of despair.

    reasons it’s trash

Death Star completely explodes in ROTJ, but is magically back.

Rey is a Mary Sue confirmed. Jesus Healing powers. Really?

Palpatine wanted Rey to be the empress? Come on. That’s out of character. The guy is obsessed with power and control.

Palpatine has offspring, not even explained.

she calls herself a Skywalker at the end which is absurd

Poe is a joke master. I mean the jokes in the film were just too much. A lot of forced comedy.

the fleet was just too ****in much. I’m so happy this **** isn’t canon

Debris from an explosion is pretty common. It's like when people try to burn down or blow up something for insurance turns out a lot of it gets left behind so that didn't bug me at all.

Force healing is pretty common in the games and EU books and Kylo did the same to her at the end. Don't make me defend Rey, the problem with her from the start is she hasn't had to struggle like Luke did so there was no joy in her journey. But her doing a Force Healing by her 3rd movie hardly bugs me.

Palpatine wanted her to be Empress because his shell was weak and they make it clear that the way he's survived through all these years is merging with the one who kills him out of hate. He wasn't giving up power he was convincing her to effectively become his next shell. Palpatine killed Plagueis who we know had found a way to cheat death so this was how he did it.

Her calling herself a Skywalker worked for me thematically because she chose her path after having spent most of the movies adrift and unsure of who she was. She was an adopted Skywalker, dunno why that would bother anyone.

The only humor that really annoyed me was the 'They fly now' which I didn't think was funny at all.

The fleets, however, we can agree there. Just magically appearing 'because the plot needs them' fleets. I despise when writers pull that stuff, it's lazy. There were better ways to accomplish what they wanted. Palpatine could still have been a threat without a big ass fleet and storming the Sith temple would have given the rest of the crew something to do while Rey dealt with her grandpappy and emo boyfriend.

Agreed. Star Trek is more adult-oriented.

If you're still watching Star Wars movies after VII, you're a huge part of the problem, and you should feel bad about yourself.

Casting for all the major characters in those is damn near perfect.
