    If this country continues on the left's fiscally reprehensible drive to constantly borrow and spend with no end then there will be nothing but poor people in this country - and no one to pay for all those government handouts.

    Not for nothing, but at $15k that person probably isn't paying a dime in federal withholding tax anyway. Plus, the exemption is still in effect for the lower earner until 2017. I might be mixing my deductions up, but this deduction probably gives people back more than they paid in actual taxes. If it does indeed do that, then it has to go. No one should get more back, than they actually paid in taxes. I knew a girl who one year made under $5k in income, but got like $2-3k back on her tax return. This was over 10 years ago maybe, but I remember thinking that was wrong. You want to give them all their tax money back, that's one thing, but giving them more than they even paid seemed wrong to me.
