RotoWorld has a link to an Oakland paper which says the same concept. Neither Huff nor Meriweather would be the Harrison style enforcer in our DB but, depending on the price, those two paired together intrigues me. Two coverage Safeties who will bring their guy down (but not necessarily deliver the Harrison knockout punch) sounds good to me.

    Uh...

I know he's been on the Raiders and whatnot, but is there anything out there to suggest Huff would be any better than Sanders or Meriweather, other than draft position?

I think we should offer a fifth rounder. After all, we can be quick to remind the Raiders' FO that this guy is no Randy Moss.

Again, why would we trade for a FS when we already have Meriweather?

FS vs SS will be blurring more and more as teams go to more 3+ WR sets. The true SS like Rodney is moving towards dinosaur status IMO, you need Safeties who can move and cover. They have to be able to support the run but as long as they bring their guy down, that's OK.

Doesnt he pretty much play corner I mean Raiders always play Cover 1 with Huff strictly matched up with the TE... my good friend is a Raiders fan and thats what he told me.

I loved Huff coming out of college. But the guys has really underperformed and on a pretty good defense. I know the Raiders are terrible, but their defense isn't that bad. That said, the guy has a lot of physical tools, and if he was willing to restructure that ridiculous contract (which I don't see him doing), I would love to see the Pats go after him.

some Raider fans are saying hes not underperforming..just not meeting expectations because of the position hes put in. It doesnt utilize his coverage and playmaking abilities.

This is just my understanding and it could be wrong - but free safety v strong safety wasn't as much an issue in our defense last season. We were brining Rodney up a lot anyway. If we're still going to use the soft zone & cover 3 stuff, and if you're in extra DB packages quite a bit, wouldn't you rather have two coverage safeties anyway?

That said, I hope we don't implement the same D we did in 07.

IMo Huff has tremendous talent and a change of scenery/franchise would do him well. He could even become an elite cb. For a reasonable trade price this is an option.

And his large contract?? If that wasn't an issue I would think it was possible..but not with that as baggage...

Leaving aside the question of whether he'd actually want to play like this, I thought Huff was going to be a decent bet to fill strong safety coming out of college. Wasn't he essentially that in Texas, leaving free safety to Michael Griffin? If I'm not mistaken, he registered over 100 tackles in his final year at UT. The guy's got size, maybe we could use him at SS.
