Politico's Jonathan Martin Calls Conservative Florida Voters "Cracker Counties" | RealClearPolitics

JONATHAN MARTIN, POLITICO: Chuck, one last thing on the map, though, if I could. I think the other reason why north Florida is going to be fascinating to watch tonight is because it's going to give us a sense of what's ahead in March, when this primary does move to the deep south states, because as you know, Chuck, a lot of the counties in the panhandle, in north Florida, the cracker counties, if you will-

    CHUCK TODD: Right.

MARTIN: -more resemble Georgia and Alabama than they do Florida. So, it's going to be interesting to see if Romney can really show some signs of strength in and around places like Pensacola, Panama City, Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

The guy is white, so he can say "cracker"...it wouldn't be acceptable if he were black though.

Works the same way as the "N-word", don't you think?:D

Honestly, the guy's a douche for saying that and even his supervisors would agree.

Unless "cracker counties" is a political term I've never heard. I love crackers and oreo's mixed....dee-licious!

What is really good is to take a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream and put on some chocolate syrup, then crumble a handful or two of saltines over top. Mix lightly and eat, yummy!

Sadly, that's a pretty accurate description. Though certainly not the adjective I would have used.

Could you give us hint as to why white or black counties are inherently "Sad"?

Never saw you post that regarding mostly black counties Jack.

I don't see anything wrong with where people want to live. If some blacks or whites enjoy living in a certain area, go for it.

    Maybe you see it differently?

Personally, I would love to see more beautiful chocolate women move to my area. Currently, my town is 3% African-American and it's not a well-to-do town at all. It's actually below average income for Massachusetts.

Gee, I dunno. I don't recall any discussions we've had related to black counties, so perhaps that's why you haven't heard me comment on it.

If you'd care to read into Martin's remarks, the obvious implication was using cracker as a cultural term, not as a racial descriptor. And that's what I was agreeing with. The white population in the panhandle of Florida is, culturally, much different than the white population in either the I4 corridor or S. Florida.

If things were reversed, and there was a story about a Watermelon and fried chicken county, and a member here said "Sadly, that's a pretty accurate description. Though certainly not the adjective I would have used." the fhit would hit the san for sure :)

P.S. I am white and I absolutely love fried chicken and watermelon, oh yes i do!!
