So many special, high-character, CLUTCH veteran players in those years. Miss 'em all.

Man, that 2004 team is one of the best in football history. Great balanced offense with a phenomenal running game (Clock Killin Corey Dillon), reliable receivers in Brown, Branch, Givens and Patten. Reliable TE's in Graham and Fauria, and of course, TFB. And that defense, oh my. Seymour and Jarvis Green attacking the QB, Vrabel and McGinest blitzing off the edges, "Tedy Brushi, The Man !" blitzing up the middle and from the outside causing tons of turnovers. The hitman Rodney Harrison causing all types of havoc, and then second teamed Assante Samuel and Gay replacing Law and Poole who wound up on IR. What a defense ! What a team. If you add the 2003 team, those teams went a combined 34-4 in including playoffs. Wow what domination.

Its unfortunate NFL Films felt a need to butcher the end of SB 38 so that forever people think that the game was over after Vinatieri kicked the field goal. There was still a kickoff, i ,for one, was scared to death of. Once the return guy was tackled, THEN the celebration began.

Good point. I was there, sideline seats close to that end zone. Once Brady got them down there I knew AV would make the kick, but there still was time on the clock. Probably the best football game I've ever attended.

Also, in regards to 2001, the game that gets shortchanged is the 17-16 win at the Jets. That was a big, ugly division win that made them 7-5 and i remember everyone looking at the schedule and realizing this was going to be a playoff team. After the 1-3 start this seemed like miracle enough, let alone what happened later.

Funny that that Wikipedia page describes the Mo Lewis game as "the worst day jets history." Even though the Jets, you know, won. Classic.

Yup, the Jets game im talking about was at the Meadowlands. Now im inspired to watch my tapes from 2001. First up, the regular season game against the Rams, our last loss, but the fact we played them so close fire me up!

Well I was at the game going ballistic when the refs returned the ball to the Jets after the Pats sacked Testaverde and he fumbled with Pats recovering. I was ignorant of the Tuck Rule and the stadium announcer simply stated "Incomplete pass. Jets ball!" after the fumble recovery by the Pats. No Tuck Rule invocation or explanation. I was WTF? are they making up stuff so the Jets can win? DUH!

It is also because of that game that once the refs started huddling in the playoff game against the Raiders that I started to think the call would be overturned. Nobody around me believed me when I brought up that play and the rule, loudly proclaiming me to be crazy, stupid and full of it - but when the call was reversed I got a lot of jaw-dropping stares in the midst of all the mayhem following the announcement by Walt Coleman.

This morning they ran two shows with ties to the Patriots: the 1985 Bears (Pats first SB (appearance) and the 1976 Raiders (should have been the Pats first SB if not for Ben Dreith); right now they are running another with a tie to the Pats (1980 Raiders, with Jim Plunkett).

This afternoon they have the 1986 Giants (Belichick the DC) at 3:00, but I think I'll be watching something else at 5:00 (2007 NYG) and 6:00 (2011 NYG).

Tuesday night the NFLN has A Football Life: Jimmy Johnson on at 8:00, and then Tom Landry at 9:00.

That's the warmup to Wednesday July 10, for the two-part "A Football Life" series on Bill Belichick, running from 8:00-10:00 pm (ET), repeating at midnight and again on Thursday afternoon from 4:00-6:00. I recall somebody writing that this was like porn for Pats fans; an odd analogy, but it's difficult to argue the point.

Friday July 12 NFLN runs "Sound FX: Tom Brady and Tim Tebow" - The best of the on and off the field sounds from Tom Brady and Tim Tebow's careers at 5:00 pm, followed by "Sound FX: Bill Belichick" - On-field sights and sounds of Bill Belichick's memorable NFL career at 5:30.
