This is entirely based on my personal opinion, but I would love to hear how others would grade these players.

Grade meanings

A+ All pro level player
A Pro Bowl level player
A- Maybe pro bowl
B+ Very good starter/elite role player
B Good starter/very good role player
B- Okay starter/good role player or back up
C+ average starter/okay role player
C Starter with weaknesses but some also good areas/average role player
C- Bad starter/Okay back up
D (degrees of bad)
F Not an NFL level player.

QB

Brady A- Hasn't had the best year but considering what he is working with he is still playing like a top 5 QB. The struggles when things get very congested continue though and he has had a number of unforced misses. I went back and forth between A and A-

WR

Edelman A-
Too many drops to give him a higher rating. Playing at a high level.
Dorsett B- The step up in opposition (#2 and #3 CBs) hasn't slowed him down. That being said he isn't able to create much after catch.
Meyers C Has been solid enough with his routes and dependable hands. He can play as a depth WR at this level against #3 CBs.
Gordon N/A

RB

White B+ Mr. consistent. The only thing he lacks is the ability to touch the ball 25 times every game.
Michel C+ He hasn't run as well this year and last year. His inability to catch is annoying. Still, he isn't as bad as his stats say.
Bolden B- Bolden has been better than Michel this year. He can do a bit of everything and has done it well for the Pats.
Burkhead C+ Has really slowed down since his injury but he's been a good option when he has played.

TE

Izzo C- He can catch okay, but for a who can't block it isn't good enough IMO
Watson N/A Needs more games.

OL

Newhouse D- Everyone's favorite whipping boy. As bad as he has been I don't think he deserves an F.
Thuney A- The best offensive player to this point for the Pats besides maybe Brady.
Karras C No one seems to mention those high slow snaps anymore. He can't run block but he hasn't allowed much pressure up the middle.
Mason C+ A bad year for him in the run game. He's still pass blocking well enough though.
Cannon C Was having a C- year before the Browns game. He did well there considering.

DL

Shelton B+ His inability to get pressure has to be held against him but he has been an absolute monster in the run game and has done his job well.
Guy B Not as impactful as last year but still doing well in his role.
Butler B He fits this style and system so perfectly. It has inflated his stats and impact a bit, but he has improved on top of that IMO.

EDGE

Simon C+ He has held the edge very well but not a ton of pass rush
Winovich B A great pass rush specialist. I don't recall many plays of him holding the edge but I imagine he must have a few times and I don't recall any bad snaps in those situations.
Calhoun C Has been mostly invisible. That is good and bad. No bad plays but no good plays really.
Wise C+ Has really come on the last few weeks and become a good rotational player. Finding a way to fit hit skill set into this D.
Bennett N/A

LB

Van Noy A- He has been their best and most consistent LB this year. Able to both make plays and do the dirty set up work.
Collins A- While his stats and splash plays jump off at you when it comes to the non-splash plays, while improved since his last stint here he still could use some work.
Hightower B+ He does a lot of things really well and is maybe having his best year. That being said weaknesses in his game have simply not been exploited yet.
Bentley B- He has been very solid in relief duty but is not one of their play makers. Looks like a low end starting level player. Which is great for a back up.

CB

Gilmore A+ Nuff said.
J. Jones A He has become one of the best slot CBs in the NFL.
J. McCourty B+ He has done great but against #2 WRs. That needs to be kept in mind.
Jackson B- Jackson is the 'weak link' of this group. He needs to learn to ease up a bit when the game is being called tight. Those penalties he gives up are invisible on his stat sheet but matter in the game.

S

D. McCourty A+ I can only find 1 or 2 bad plays all year.
Chung B Has been very good but not one of their elite DBs
Harmon B You barely notice he's on the field at all. That is good, but not very good.
Brooks B- I have little to complain about with Brooks, but he rarely makes his own plays and is usually on clean up duty against inferior competition.

STs

Ghost/Nugent N/A
but bad. If I had to grade.... Gost C- Nugent F
Bailey A
One of the best punters in the NFL already. He had a few hiccups though.
Cardona A- No screw ups really or pressure allowed. All you can ask.
Slater A+ Still an all pro.
Gunner B Some good returns but nothing amazing.

Man I'm glad you weren't my HS teacher. You obviously have your favorite pets. I was a troublemaker so probably got OL grades. But seriously, you thought Ghost was an "ok backup?" Man that's brutal.

Only graded him on what he did this year. This year he was a bad starter from the kicker position. Not the worst, but not in the top 16 kickers.

The OL grades are based off of the inability of any of them besides Thuney to be able to both run and pass block. Karras, Cannon and Mason have all been pretty decent as pass blockers to be honest, but not as run blockers. Mason was the best run blocker but he isn't getting it done this year like he usually does. Clearly a down year for him. Also all 3 have allowed too much pressure. The best pass blocker of the 3 has been Karras but he's also the worst run blocker of the 3.

Did I miss Simon and Calhoun? They are valuable as much as anyone else. I'm not a "fan" of these evaluations.

Basically give me a break on the defense. Record setting numbers and guys are getting Bs? Guy is a stud and Butler

Hightower is an A.

I don't mind a lot of your offensive grades, though I could gripe a bit about the OL. But I don't agree with a lot of the defensive grades. I feel some should be higher (Van Noy and Collins) and some should be lower (Bentley and JC Jackson). But good thread idea, nonetheless.

I wont release my grades until after we play the utterly prestigious Baltimore Ravens, aka the measuring stick of professional sports teams. Until then who knows what we have

my browser crashed while I was doing it so i had to copy paste and I missed that group. I'll fix that.

wha??? No F's? No effs given?? OK, I don't care either

QB - B+

Thuney has been our best player on O. Much agreed there. Was the only one driving the bus last year in terms of OL & hes continued his great play this year.

Not sure if Karras is our 2nd best OL, which is a scary thought but he's more valuable then some think imo. Not good lol but hasn't been terrible.
OL is abt surviving the rep, giving your QB the best shot on that play. Not winning, that's extra imo. He's been good enough. C

Rest has been meh except for Newhouse. He's been very bad.

Actually agree w most @BobDigital
Probably have Gunner a lil lower.

I believe what makes their D great is that they have a number of stars as well as a lot of very good players with no obvious weak point to attack.

Hightower is an A.
Defensive players underrated. Especially Simon & HT.

As far as Shelton, Butler, and Wise : they aren’t perfect, but if you grade them according to “what you thought they’d be”, all three would be A.

I love JC. He’s not the weakest link there.

A reality check needs to be made... Calhoun has been a steal... We seem to have forgotten Cassius Marsh... Sure he doesn't jump out but you also don't see him getting blown off the edge... I'm not really certain what people want.. 2 pts a game?

Not everyone is going to agree with a report card like this....I think it's very good. However I think Wise and Simon belong in the B range. LaCosse C-. Great job Bob.

Patriots LB John Simon is the best 'Boogeyman' you've never heard of

“He plays to his name,” Dont’a Hightower said.

Um, OK. So what does that mean?

“He’s John [expletive] Simon,” Hightower added. “He’s setting the edge on the biggest, baddest dudes. He doesn’t say no to contact. He’ll do the trash man duties that some guys don’t necessarily like, because they won’t get the praise and recognition from everybody. Simon’s one of those guys who doesn’t care if you know, doesn’t want you to know.”

Sony Michel is no way better than a D...8 games, only 1 over 4 ypc, zero 100 yard games, what seems like zero broken tackles, offers nothing in passing game, mediocre pass protector.... quickly becoming Maroney 2.0

Not bad but more interesting if expectations were also factored. For example Myers: making the team in itself was a mountain to climb. Then, while his play he may be a C grade, factoring expectations he is an A. IMHO...

Cassius Marsh is not on the Patriots.

Two comments:

HT is an A. He does so many things that don't show up on the stat sheet,IMO.

And I think Michel has more catches this year already than he did all of last year, no?
