I'm suggesting the political side of the discussion should wait for some of the proverbial dust to first settle.
    No worries....

    Well put.

The political discussion should take place in the Political Forum.

This thread is here temporarily for sympathy and solidarity with the people of Paris at this terrible time.

There are two separate threads, this one for prayers and better thought, and then, the political for partisan and finger pointing, if shmessy or another mod, would just move/delete the later posts....

This thread is about thoughts/prayers and sharing our feelings about the horrific events that took place in Paris, which provides a sense of unity through catharsis, for this board. So it should not be banished to the political forum because some posters are trying to pull it down to that realm.

Those trying to turn the thread political or pointing fingers do so out of anger or fear (and anger comes from fear), and constructive discussion is the best way to deal with that.

Not sure what it means to 'turn a thread political'.

Reuters reports that ISIS has taken credit for this.

Islamic State claims Paris attacks that killed 127

Is mentioning that fact turning this thread political? Why? It's a fact.

Would it have been proper on December 8, 1941 for the media to not mention who bombed Pearl Harbor, but only express sympathy and encourage prayer?

Don't get me wrong... I'm 1000% in favor of prayer... it is the most powerful force we humans can wield. But I'm also 1000% for defeating evil, however it manifests itself. And the ORGANIZED PREMEDITATED MURDER of hundreds of INNOCENT VICTIMS seems to me a pretty strong manifestation.

No, but when the partisan, finger pointing, policy blaming people come out, then its becomes political, Saying the French remain in your prayers, is not

To me, it seems there is a group of the later that does not want to read the trash of the former

It is a very understandable reaction to want to quickly find out who perpetuated such horrific attacks and to react forcibly or retaliate, to point fingers and assign blame, but those are exactly the goals that ISIS is trying to achieve: confusion, division, and dissent.

However, to come together in prayer and unite in our grief and support for France and for each other, is to truly defeat them.

And this is why this thread is out of place. It's a ridiculous notion to think that people aren't going to comment about a horrible massacre that's 100% religious/political.

Exactly how are you defeating them in your scenario? Are you protecting lives? Are you bringing criminals to justice? If you're only fighting the battle spiritually, which is important but incomplete, you're not even praying for the right people.

ISIS: group of extremists that started in Iraq.

Gee, I wonder what it is about Iraq that makes them extremists.

As long as we have incredible myopia and lack of self-reflection, this is something that will continue.

It is as simple as that.

They took "hostages" at the concert hall. Luckily the French police stormed the place even though a hundred inside were killed already. These people have no desire to take hostages. I suppose it's a success that they stopped them before they killed everyone.

Prayers for the French. This is an attack on the west, Paris was just a target of convenience.

They kill other Muslims that do not adhere to their brand of Islam.

It is written in the Koran to do so. Some call it radical Islam, but its actually Islam in its purest form.

    Nonsense tripe and ignorance.

Like taking the bible literally as somehow encompassing all Christianity

Isis started before Iraq, and its leaders weren't Iraqi.
