Lamar/Mahomes the next Brady/Manning rivalry

Lamar is a RB masquerading as a QB.

The real NFL QB battle is Mahomes vs Russell Wilson with Kyler Murray nipping at their heels as the future... assuming they put a real O-Line in front of him.

So much Monday morning QBing about the Patriots picking Lamar Jackson in the draft but let’s be real. Mr. Gisele would have thrown a fit if they did that and we can’t have that. No chance they were picking him in that position because it’s a shot across the bow at you know who.

yeah and he started 6-0 against him. And was 1-3 when the AFC was on the line. Not domination IMO

The home QB won in 2006 (postseason), 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2013 (postseason), 2014, 2015, and 2015 (postseason).

Nine consecutive wins.

Manning may have won the last 3 AFCCG battles but had the better squad and home field each time. When the Patriots were the higher seed, Manning choked in 2007 and 2014. Also choked in 2012 with the #1 seed.

sure everything you said it’s true. But its not evidence Brady dominated.

Agree...Brady was better than Manning for reasons other than their head to head matchups.

Why is this thread on the Patriots forum? Neither one of these players were on the Patriots. This needs to be moved to the NFL subforum. Don't need to be reading about Mahomes and Lamar on my Patriots fans forum. It hurts my eyes and feelings.

That is an interesting, disingenuous way to cherry pick one of his playoff wins over Manning out of the picture....

Mahomes will be in a class of his own until the salary cap catches up to that team. Then the Chiefs will start losing to other teams with inferior QBs but better overall teams such as the Bills.

Seeing this comparison a lot. I couldn't disagree more.

The reason why Brady/Fivehead was a rivalry for the ages is that it was polarizing. Brady had the wins (including some big ones over Fivehead's team in the playoffs) and rings. Fivehead had the stats and MVPs. So who was better? That was the debate. This debate went right to the core of what "greatness" means in sports - does wins trump stats? Manning had unbelievable stats but couldn't win the big ones very often and when he did he was not really a key part of those wins. Brady is the winningest QB in history - until this year he had Bill Belichick as coach, and no doubt that was a benefit. And so on. There wasn't really a true consensus in that debate no matter what happened on the field.

Not seeing any of that with Mahomes/Jackson. They've never met in the playoffs. They both have an MVP. Mahomes has a ring and Jackson is 0-fer in the playoffs. Last night was probably the biggest game in this series and LJ's team got torched. LJ has never beaten the Chiefs as a starter. Nobody in their right mind would say LJ is a better QB than Mahomes. Is it even a rivalry at all? Doesn't look like it to me. Mahomes/Jackson to me is a lot closer to Brady/Ben than Brady/Manning
For that matter, LJ has never beaten ANYBODY who was leading the Ravens at halftime.

Lamar is not on Mannings level and never will be. Mahomes is definitely on Manning's level and could be mentioned with Brady at some point in his career, if it keeps ascending this way. Kid is fun to watch.

not really. When the afc was on the line, Manning was 3-1 against him. 3-2 overall in the playoffs. This is domination?

Brady made 9 Super Bowls and Manning made 4. That is the domination. The fact that Manning had 9 one and done's and failed to play against some of the more dominant Patriots teams is not a plus in his column. And every statistical advantage that Manning had early in his career were closed by Brady by the time he retired.

So which one do we think likes sexually assaulting blondes? Jackson or Mahomes?

It’s not a plus in Brady’s column either

It is weaksauce because, besides cherry picking one of the Brady wins out of the picture, basically you give Manning a pass for all those years he just wasn't good enough to make it to the AFCCG.

Need to play each other to have a rivalry. Brady and Manning had an incredible amount of matchups, considering they were in separate divisions since Brady's 2nd year. The sheer number of playoff matchups was also unreal, which probably would have been even longer save for Rahim Moore's stupidity and Darren Sproles' brilliance.

Mahomes and Jackson appear to be the next closest duo who will routinely face each other every year. Who knows if that plays out. In their 2 overlapped years as starters, only last year was their first where one team underperformed in their postseason effort towards an AFCCG battle. They're both young, leading good teams. Many more matchups appear on the horizon.

Regards,
Chris

you can’t say Brady dominated manning because of this. It’s just a supporting argument that he was a better player.

Brady dominated manning from 01-04 and that was it. After that it was fairly even

The Pat's defense dominated Peyton Manning.

The Colts spent all their money and draft capital on Manning and the offense, outside of a few good pieces they were largely one sided teams. The Pats were a balanced team in all three phases, that's why they won. Manning's only ring with the Colts came because of a broken Rodney Harrison forearm, otherwise Dallas Clark never would have gone off in the playoffs.
