Jimmy G. benched

I think it is just a fetish by our media. They desperately wanted to be right that the Pats should have traded Brady and kept Jimmy when it has become obvious over the past 3 seasons that it was the opposite that was true. Not only that but Brady is a better QB at age 43 than Jimmy is now. LOL
Durability was the problem I had with JG at the time. He didn't even finish 6 quarters here when the team needed him for 4 games. Also if you believe these reports, the team wasn't impressed when he had to back out of week 4 when the team expected him to go and forced Brissett out there with a damaged thumb on his throwing hand.

With that said I think JG takes a lot of grief for that SB and it's a bit over the top IMO. It's not like he stunk it up. One missed throw away from beating the Chiefs.

Jimmy G would be much better on the patriots than he is on San Francisco IMO.

The Sanu trade was absolutely dreadful and completely out of the realm of how Bill normally operates. I think we can agree on this. So what were the circumstances that surrounded that trade where Bill did something he normally would never do and hasn't ever done before?

And by bringing up the Sanu trade, are you saying that you are not happy with how Bill managed to spin the Jimmy G 2nd in to what the team eventually received?

It was humor because everyone keeps rehashing the Sanu trade. Poking the bear if you will. The Sanu trade can look EVEN worse if you consider ......

The trade was a mistake - that is obvious in retrospect. People look at the previous AB trade and say that Brady was pushing for a veteran, but who knows. BB likes Rutgers guys, Van Noy tells the story of BB saying, "I always get my guys" so maybe Sanu was a BB guy, BB might have guessed it was Brady's last year, BB might have thought he had a historic defense and only needed one piece on offense to get back to the Bowl, so on and so forth. There are so many scenarios intertwined with Brady's leaving that no-one will ever know. So I was poking the bear a bit because there is no answer to why BB pulled the trigger on an awful trade, and that scenario will always result in the gnashing of teeth on PatsFans. That is all.

I do not care about this trade or that draft pick. For me that is all hindsight, living in the past, regret and remorse. I like to concentrate on the guys we have now and see how we can move forward.

The Patriots were undefeated at the time of the Sanu acquisition. It appeared to be an overpay by a round or two but had the potential to be enough to get them over the top. With 10 catches, 81 yards and a TD in just his 2nd game it briefly looked like a smart move. Unfortunately he got hurt and was never able to regain that initial impact. As disappointed as the 2019 season ended they played a great week 16 game against the Bills and if they had just stopped the Dolphins on that final drive they get a bye week and 2 weeks to prepare for whomever made it through so who knows what happens. Terrible move in hindsight - understandable at the time.

I never mind a swing and a miss mid-season to make a run at a championship. Now Bill's awful drafting at WR is a whole different animal and what put us in the position to have to make the Sanu trade and AB signing and pretty much solidified in Brady's mind that he was moving on.

He looked awful last game. Even though SF made the SB last year and he played really well in spurts, he's not to the level he was playing at in 2017 when he first got traded in season and he played those last 5 games with SF. He looked like a world beater in those 5 games.

I don't know if it's because of injuries or because he started dating a porn star but he looks like he's regressed.

I think he got figured out. Happens to all QBs. The mark of the great ones are always that they adjust and continue to be successful. Right now Mahomes is going through that a bit. Defenses know he can't read them well and relies purely on his arm talent which is superb but if you can slow him at all, he becomes very pedestrian. It was happening last year too when he only threw for 26 TDs but it got kind if lost because he had the playoff run with all the comebacks but that KC offense has very little margin for error - they need him to be great every game to win and now teams are being built to stop him like Oakland, Chargers, Titans, Pats. We will see how he adjusts.

Jimmy got benched yesterday after a horrific day against the vaunted Dolphins. Yet another chapter in the Jimmy saga. Do does Shanny move on from him at seasons end? Does Bill trade for him?

Ha Ha, he had a bad day after coming back from an injury during this crazy COVID-19 season and you jump on him like a dog because why? You don't like him? Are you a Brady lover? Brady should have been benched many times during his career, but there wasn't a backup to step in. So big deal that Jimmy G got benched!

I think Jimmy could have won a SB with the Pats in 2018. Why not? It’s not like Brady did anything amazing in that game and the Patriots run game was great in that playoff stretch.

Well.. he did kind of break the record for most passing yards in a Super Bowl that game (broke his own record)

I meant SB LIII, the 2018 season, the one they actually won. I can see the Pats winning that game with Jimmy.

LOL. Wasn't Jimmy Brady's back up for 3 1/2 years? Then again Jimmy is no Beathard!

will you JimmyG rumpswabs give it up...he's past. He's a Yugo with the fenders falling off and two flat tires

Which sadly still makes him better than Hoyer or Stid.

I took his benching as more of sign that he came back too early from his injury.

Now if the 49ers trade for Matt Ryan my opinion would change.

Imagine if the niners had gone after Brady in the offseason?

I’d think SF would still be in a mess with injuries on D & a very tough division... Brady in SF wouldn’t be enough to surpass Seattle IMO.

If (when) Cam leaves for big $ this offseason, NE should explore a JG reunion. SF has an « out » this summer to avoid paying him and he’d likely come cheap. Firstly, other teams might not rate him very highly, secondly there’ll be quite a few QBs on the market that might appeal to competitors.

I’d not want NE to break the bank for JG, but considering what BB & JMcD have done w Cam in such little time...

The running, the OL, Jimmy’s familiarity : it could be a redemption story.
