Why the Patriots should be the team to sign Colin Kaepernick

Why the Patriots should be the team to sign Colin Kaepernick | Boston.com

Also a take by Kyle Shanahan:

"But now nearly four years later, Shanahan expressed frustration that it's taken others so long to get the point.

"I think the biggest thing that is so hard with the Colin thing is people misunderstanding what he was doing," Shanahan said. "And I think that's why the reactions have been hard the last couple of days over things that people are still confused [about]. Regardless of whether you agree with how he did it or not, that doesn't matter. What Colin was protesting was something that should be respected by all humans. That did take a lot of courage. "

    Shanahan sad Kaepernick still misunderstood

Didn't Kaep get paid out by the NFL or Nike? Didn't he receive $90M?

Do his career earnings matter? I do think the guy was blackballed the last 4 years as a social pariah, but recent events now paint him on the moral right of history. The dude is becoming a poor man's Ali in terms of now looking like a person wronged by society.

Oof. But if his game has radically improved then sure.

Given how crappy the league backups are in this league I think he could be of value to a team. Would be bonus points too in an area big on social justice. Maybe Philly? Maybe back in SF? I have a weird feeling Boston won't like it. See how Brissett was treated.

He was a mediocre qb who hasn't played in the NFL in 4 years. He played 9 games in 2015 and 11 in 2016. He is 33 years old. Do you think he is even close to as good as he was back when he was playing a lot. Why in the world would the Patriots want to sign him?

He was a good running qb back when he first came up, but I don't think players get much faster as they age.

As a backup compared to other league backups? Seems he has the talent. His last 2 years he threw for 22TDs/9int and also ran for 700 yards. I dunno maybe I am being overly harsh on the backup QBs but I think there are a lot of terrible backup QBs with NFL jobs right now

Still not worth it if his game hasn't improved. How was Brissett treated? I'm on the west coast.

Kaepernick vs Hoyer vs Newton, you have a chance to save your season and your options are these, who do you go with?

I'm thinking he should get a tryout at least from a few teams. If Vick can get a second chance, I would think just about anyone could.

Full disclosure: I like the protests that Kaep started, most of it was very tasteful. He is very articulate and can hold his own in any legit Q and A session.

There’s no harm in bringing him in. He’s proven to be good enough to not prevent a team from getting to the super bowl .... Hoyer? Has he ever even scored a point in the playoffs?

the easy part will be that Kaepernick will very quickly prove whether he has anything or not.

as for the deniers and all those ready to punt their season tickets, that’s fine....the stadium will still be full

If his agent is anywhere decent he'll help explain to him that there is zero NFL starting QB job for someone out of the league for 4 years and 32 years old...

I am sure his agent told him that but given his stardom he is not playing for 1-3 mil. The Pats would not even be able to offer him that.
