suicide squad looks like absolute garbage.
It's either going to be really good or really ****. Hard to tell from the trailers which were designed to be campy.
trailers can be very misleading sometimes. I didn't think i would like Deadpool based on the trailer and that movie was a hoot.
Same here. That's why I'm taking this trailer with a grain of salt. The cast is great and it looks dark. Like I said, it's either going to be very good or it's REALLY going to suck.
Edited the thread title for accuracy.
Ya, I agree that the Flash is gonna be comic relief like Spider Man was in Civil War. The trailer also tried to portray Bruce Wayne in a different light. The anger we saw in Batman v Superman wasn't there. I just hope they don't make it to light though. Batman is a dark character. It's a balance I hope they get right.
Well, @captain insano, I guess Suicide Squad really sucks. 31% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I think im going to wait to see it on HBO.
I'm not sure how much gravitas you give Kevin Smith (I don't like his films, personally), but that fatso said he thought "Suicide Squad" was one of the best comic movies he's ever seen.
Critics just seem to hate DC right now. I thought (along with my friends who I went with and my brother who just watched the DVD) that BvS was pretty good. The theatre version had its issues, but it certainly didn't deserve the critical thrashing that it got.
BvS and SS both have fairly good ratings on IMDB which shows the general publics opinion of these movies is a lot different then the critics. SS is gonna land at about $145m opening weekend, so even with critics low scores it looks to be a big hit. I'll check it out within the next few weeks
I went out for a guy's night with some buddies last night and we elected to see "Suicide Squad" instead of "Sausage Party". Big mistake. It was just north of awful. The only thing that somewhat saved it was getting to look at Margot Robbie for a couple of hours. The movie was nothing but non-stop mindless action and throw away one liners (most of which weren't even funny). The script was poorly written and the intentions of the villains, on top of what exactly the machine they constructed was even trying to do, were not made very clear. It was well acted, but the cast cannot save that script. I would wait until it's out on HBO.
Finally caught the Director's Cut of "Dawn of Justice" and it was a much better movie than the theatrical version. It tied together so many pieces of the original film that just flat out did not make sense. They should have left all of that in. The movie would have been very long, but it would have benefitted.
"Dr. Strange" opens at 90% on RottenTomatoes.
Might go check out Dr. Strange. I was on the fence, but the solid early reviews are dragging me in.
Would you say it had the same effect the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven had? Changed that movie significantly for the better.
I've never seen "Kingdom of Heaven", but yes. They left out a lot of information that really pieced the movie together in the original cut. Even though it made the movie longer, I felt like I was watching a shorter film the second time around because I enjoyed it more.
And definitely see Dr. Strange. I'd put that one up as the best superhero movie of the year.
That's saying a lot. I thought Civil War was quite good, even if most other hero movies this year kinda blow. Hmmmmmm, alrighty then.
As for Kingdom of Heaven, it's a historical film, so no idea if that's your bag, but if you do check it out, watch the Director's Cut. It's longer, but far better.
I had "Civil War" as the best superhero movie of 2016 prior to seeing Dr. Strange.
Wonder Woman was a great movie.
Saw Wonder Woman. Was a overrated IMO but good. 6.5/10.
I can see why people liked it though. The undertones in the plot are interesting. Strong female lead. There were a lot of reasons to hope for it to be good and it was but the narrative of those things made too many too willing to say it was better than it was. Also compared to the low bar set by Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad which both were failures anything decent would look much better in comparison.
I don't regret seeing it of course but I regret letting others get my hopes up for what in the end was merely a fairly well executed conventional super hero story.
IMO DC really has had only 1 success in trying to build there new universe and that was Man of Steel (also the best Superman movie with respect to the ones in the 70s/80s)
That's what happens when you have Zack Snyder, who should be a cinematographer, helm three of the biggest movies of their new universe (Man of Steel, which was good but had way too much action, BvS, and Justice League). Speaking of Justice League, that movie looks like it's going to be an absolute abomination based on the trailer.
